The Portable Pike & Shot Wargame ... has been published!

I understand that both the printed and Kindle editions of THE PORTABLE PIKE & SHOT WARGAME book have been published, and are now available to buy from Amazon.

The printed, colour, paperback is on sale for £14.99, and the Kindle edition is available for £4.99. The former should be printed and delivered to Amazon Prime members by Sunday 29th November, and the Kindle edition is available for immediate download.

This took less time that Amazon KDP told me it would, and I was somewhat surprised to find that both editions were already on sale, especially as I was still revising the cover for the Kindle edition yesterday!

One of the anomalies that arises from using Amazon KDP is that as the editor/publisher, I have to wait in line for my copies of the printed book to be delivered. Lulu.com would not let a book be released for publication until I had ordered at least one copy, but Amazon KDP seems perfectly happy to do so as long as I have reviewed the book online in each edition. This means that the contributors and myself will probably not have a copy of the book until some time after it has been read by members of the paying public.

Regardless of this, the book is now on sale, and I have managed to achieve the goal of getting it finished and published before Christmas. I have a feeling that there will be several copies being bought as Christmas presents ... either to 'give' to oneself or to give to a member of the family to 'give' back on Christmas Day!

It was one of my short-term goals, and it was good to achieve it.

I will give Lulu.com another opportunity to redeem themselves ... but if they fail again, I’ll definitely be staying with Amazon KDP.

      All the best,

      Bob

  3. I shall be buying a paper copy as I have a hoarse of ECW figures just waiting for some decent rules. Its a shame about Lulu as in the past I have always bought the hardback version. Best of luck with future sales.

I wish that I could offer a hardback edition via Amazon, but I cannot do that at present. That was one area where Lulu.com scored over Amazon KDP ... but the former just aren’t providing a good enough service nowadays.

      All the best,

  7. Went for instance gratification and went for the download but may get the book as well, now have a problem as I am painting up 15mm ECW armies and on my 50mm square's board only the pike blocks fit in the squares, may have to get some Baccus 6mm

    1. P A Strivens,

I’m sure that if you enjoy reading the Kindle edition, you’ll enjoy the printed edition even more.

Trying the rules out with Baccus figures makes a lot of sense, especially if they will fit better on your current board.

Good luck with painting your 15mm figures. I’m sure that you’ll find a way to use them with the rules.

      All the best,

  11. Hi Bob -
Glad to see you got it out so early. Unfortunately, Amazon is telling me it can't deliver (the hard copy) to my delivery location. Not sure what the trouble is there. Not sure whether to push ahead with an order or to leave it for the nonce...
    Damn.

Sorry to read that you cannot order a hard copy of the book, but I understand that it hasn’t yet become available in Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Mexico, or India, although the Kindle edition is.

I’ll monitor the situation, and I may have to find a solution if Amazon doesn’t.

      All the best,

    1. Benoit,

I think that you might well be my first Belgian purchaser! Did you order it from Amazon.co.uk or from the French Amazon website? The latter implied that it would be available for printing and posting in 1 or 2 days (https://www.amazon.fr/Portable-Pike-Shot-Wargame/dp/B08NX9VHLG/ref=sr_1_7?__mk_fr_FR=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&dchild=1&keywords=bob+cordery&qid=1606382281&sr=8-7).

I hope that you enjoy reading it when it arrives.

      Bob

PS. Thanks for your best wishes.

  14. Just bought both versions, but I have to wait until 1 December for the paper version to arrive.

It's a bit odd that the two versions have different product pages on Amazon. I can't see why this would happen as you no doubt set the both up on KDP at the same time. I think it would help sales if the pages were merged so that anyone drawn to the book by Amazon's algorithms realises that they have a choice between the two versions,

    1. Mike Hall,

It sounds as if you are going to get your printed edition before I get mine. They are quoting 9th to 11th December for my order to be fulfilled as authors don’t get preferential treatment.

Apparently, it is up to the author to tell Amazon to amalgamate to the two different product pages, and I did that yesterday. They tell me this should be done in about two to three days.

      All the best,

      Bob

  16. Excellent news Bob. My printed copy is now on order. It's a shame that Lulu didn't pull their finger out to help you further as I would have much preferred to have had a hardback copy to go with all my others, but I completely understand your decision to go with Amazon KDP for this one.

Either way, I'm looking forward to reading the latest installment of the Portable Wargame portfolio!

  21. Well I received my copy today and can happily report that the contents look excellent, based upon my allowed quick flick through before it disappears to Santa for Xmas. Also the quality is the same as the previous books printed by Lulu, so no worries for you there Bob! In short I'm a happy bunny:)

  22. Hi Bob,

Well done on getting your latest book published. Will there be a PDF version? I find the Kindle versions awful (not just your works, all gaming books - the tables and images are all over the place for starters) but don't want yet another paper book taking up shelf space.

I am looking at how I can make a PDF version available, but doing anything about it will unfortunately have to wait until after I have surgery to remove part of my bowel. That should be happening tomorrow, and I hope to be back home in about a week.
