Somewhat earlier than expected (it was 8.00am and not the 9.00am we were told the work would start), the fitters arrived and began stripping out the doors etc., that are being replaced as part of our kitchen revamp.
Sue and I are staying well out of the way but have not taken the cat’s lead in hiding under the bed! (She is an old and rather nervous cat who does not like things when they are different from normal.) We have had our breakfast and are about to find things to do that will keep us away from the kitchen area as much as possible. I hope to be able to spend some time basing up my newly painted cavalry and working on my latest book whilst Sue does some sewing.
They seem to be making quite good progress, and hopefully they will be finished by early tomorrow. The only thing that might delay them is the replacement of the old gas oven with the new electric one, as that depends upon the arrival of the gas fitter … and I understand that they are not the most reliable of trades!
Hi BOB,
ReplyDeleteGood to hear your Kitchen is underway- it'l be great! Looking forward to seeing the based Cavalry for FLW. Now having a Cat is good- I'd like to have a Cat though Chris won't go along with it. I had a Cat when I was a youngster- she was named 'Tiddles'- a great moggy. Stay well there. Cheers. KEV.
Kev Robertson (Kev),
DeleteIt is all gradually coming together … but it is a three-day job and they are trying to do it two, so we expect things to be a bit hectic.
We were never supposed to have a cat … but years ago we began to look after a stray that was living in our garden, and since then we have had a series of them. The latest - Lucy - we took on after a former colleague asked if we could help her out. She had recently got married and had a baby, and Lucy was living in a house with two other cats, the new husband, and the baby … and was exhibiting signs of stress. She came to live with us … and now that she has settled in and she is no longer stressed, she has become a real house cat, only going outside once or twice a day.
Unlike dogs, cats don’t need constant attention, and Lucy will happily sit and watch Sue and I working … and when she isn’t doing that or eating, she is asleep somewhere.
Stay safe and stay well,
Bob
BOB,
DeleteAh- yes, Cats are great company and I do definitly prefer Cats to Dogs...my 'Tiddles' use to go to sleep on my lap and Purr..very contented. Cats usually find a favorite place in the House or Shed to sleep - 'Tiddles' liked my Brothers Clothing Cupboard and slept on a blanket in the Cupboard...great memories- that was 60 years ago! It all could have been yesterday. Good to talk to you Bob. Cheers. KEV.
Kev Robertson (Kev),
DeleteCats are great de-stressers, and I am told that stroking one reduces one's heartrate and helps one to relax.
Tiddles sounds as if they were a real character, and the fact that you have fond memories of them 60 year later is something to be cherished.
All the best,
Bob
BOB,
DeleteI tend to have a good memory and thinking back to childhood memories is easy for me. Our Friends often laugh at me as I'd recall something which occurred decades ago and I'd give the date in my recollection- they think it's odd- though for me it is perfectly normal. Well- I guess Sue will be awaiting the look of her new Kitchen- it can be a real morale booster for sure. Stay well there in London. Cheers. KEV.
Kev Robertson (Kev),
DeleteI also have quite a good memory … although some of my childhood ones are not as pleasant to recall as others. (I spent a lot of time in and out of hospital when I was a child undergoing quite painful procedures that were designed to help overcome the effects of scoliosis.)
The fitters are making good progress, and we can already see how much better the kitchen will look when they have finished.
All the best,
Bob
Good to see your project has started. Fingers crossed there aren’t delays with the different trades involved. A new/refreshed kitchen can certainly lift the spirits.
ReplyDeleteI’m nervously/excited for the start of our cabin next week. 🤞
Nundanket,
DeleteThe kitchen fitters need the gas fitter to arrive soon so that they can continue their work. Luckily, they think that they can work around the delay … but not for very long.
Good luck with the work on your cabin.
All the best,
Bob
At least its not a DIY job!
ReplyDeleteRoss Mac,
DeleteI could have dismantled the kitchen all right … but putting it back together with the new doors etc., would never have worked!
All the best,
Bob
One of my cats is an enormous scaredy-cat - whenever a stranger comes into the apartment she hides, to the point that I have had visitors who don't believe she exists. And she's incredibly sensitive - I can rarely get her to the vet because when I start thinking about it, she dives under the couch.
ReplyDeleteI also have had gamer-kitties - Lex is my present one, and often won't let me play games because my Cigar Box mat belongs to HER.
Poor girl, just keep reassuring her that all will be well and that she'll have a new kitchen to explore and reclaim one of these days. Stay safe!
Jannifer,
DeleteWhen we got married, I never wanted a cat ... but after our first cat - the lovely, well-natured Puss-Puss - I was hooked, and don't know what life would be like without one.
All of ours have been real characters. Puss-Puss was docile and loving, and we could take her anywhere in the car ... including the vets. Ginger was a white and ginger tabby, and was a feisty cat who would allow you to pick her up and carry her around like a baby. Whisky was a black and white runt with an abbreviated tail (the end got cut off before we got her), scared of everyone, but loved to be tickled and stroked. Big Boy was inherited from an old neighbour who died, and all he wanted to do was to sit in the sun all day, watching the world go by. And now we have Lucy ... who does not like to sit on you, but is very 'chatty' when she sits next to you.
When I got up this morning, Lucy was exploring the 'new' kitchen, and had very obviously been climbing on all the units etc. (She is a climber, and loves getting up onto the conservatory roof ... and then waits until you open a first-floor window so that she can come in again!). It is now 'her' kitchen ... and no doubt she will tell us all at every opportunity!
All the best,
Bob
Basing, sewing and kitchen fitting - a productive house indeed. Hope the process goes well for you all.
ReplyDeleteTardgardmastare,
DeleteIt beats sitting in front of the TV all day ... which seems to be the main occupation of a lot of retired people we know. (We make an exception with cricket, which we would both watch all day!)
All the best,
Bob
