TERMINATED!

I am in the final stages of putting together The Fourth Portable Wargame Compendium ... but I have had to put further work on hold because of the following email I received from Amazon KDP:

As the text of the email shown above is rather small to read easily, I have added it below:

Hello,

We have terminated your KDP account because we found that you do not have the necessary rights to publish the book(s) listed below. If you have documentation proving you have the necessary rights to publish this book, please reply to this message and attach it to your email.

DIID/ASIN: 58756726-Title: The Third Portable Wargame Compendium

We are committed to providing a bookstore built on trust between authors, publishers, and readers, and we take prompt action when needed to ensure a positive experience. As part of the account termination process:

    • You can no longer access your KDP Account, Bookshelf, or Reports.
    • We have removed your published books from the Amazon Store.
    • You are not eligible to receive any outstanding royalties.
    • You are not allowed to open a new KDP account.

For more information, view our Terms and Conditions: https://kdp.amazon.com/terms-and-conditions

If you have any questions or believe your account was terminated in error, please reply to this email. To help us respond quickly, please send a single email.

Regards,

Amazon KDP

There is no explanation as to why they have reached this conclusion, but I am at a total loss as to how I can provide the proof that Amazon KDP require.

I will share any updates as and when I can. In the meantime, I am going to find a dark room to sit in whilst I try to come to terms with what has happened.

  1. Bob, which books were included in the list referenced in the email? Since this is primarily an automated process, you could look in the cited books to spot any possibly offending content. It could almost be anything. Without seeing the books, themselves, I cannot offer any insight. I would contact KDP support and get more explicit explanation.

This is punch out of the blue!

    1. Jonathan Freitag,

Thanks for your support and suggestions.

It was only one of the books that is cited as ‘offending’ Amazon KDP’s ‘Terms and Conditions’, THE THIRD PORTABLE WARGAME COMPENDIUM, which was published a year ago!

I’ve looked at the book and cannot see any reason for there being any suspicion that I do not have the right to be recognised as the author/editor of the book. The contributors are all listed and were listed as authors in all the documentation.

I have replied to the email with screenshots of the metadata showing when the manuscript was created (by me!) and when it was revised. I’ve also included screenshots of the relevant files (with dates etc.) on my hard drive.

      All the best,

      Bob

  2. Well, that looks really odd, to put it mildly. There must be someone you can correspond with to get the ball rolling at least. Could it be that someone is trying to take credit for your work elsewhere? For a start, to prove it is you, you presumably have pdfs with metadata that shows you have the oldest version of the file, preferably one that dates before it was published. You've also documented your journey on the blog, which again has dates that are provable. At least you can reply to the email. Go back to them with something simple at first. Perhaps they don't realise it's you on Wargames Vault.

  3. Well, I guess a google search of using the text of that message put as a question might give you some idea how to respond.
