Out of the Shed: My collection of HO-scale plastic model buildings

Over the years I have collected quite a few HO-scale plastic model buildings. They were/are manufactured by a number of European companies for use on model railway layouts, but I found them very suitable for wargaming as well.

In one of the crates from the now-defunct shed I found most of my collection. The building were rather dirty, but soap and water has restored them to their former glory ... so here they are:

Industrial Buildings

Buildings Under Construction/Damaged Buildings

Suburban Houses

Rural Houses and Farms

Shed, Barns, and Outbuildings

I know that there are some more buildings somewhere ... but I have yet to find them. What I have found are the components for two log cabins and a suburban house, and I hope to put them together in the near future.

  1. I seem to recall borrowing a number of these for the celebrated Wargame Developments game 'Play Your Cards Right'. The first building became popularly known as 'the tractor factory'...

  2. Tim Gow,

I remember that game; it was a WD classic!

I wondered why some of the buildings had magnetic tape stuck on the underside of their bases ... and now I remember why.

    All the best,

    Bob

  3. Quite a handy collection you have there. I particularly like the industrial buildings. One tends to overlook this aspect of war games urban planning, but it's such a feature from at least the 1850s onwards.

  4. Stu Rat,

As I am having difficulty sorting out which bits belong to which kits, you may well be right!

    All the best,

    Bob

  5. Archduke Piccolo,

The collection is quite versatile with regard to wargaming conflicts in Northern Europe post 1850, and the industrial buildings have been fought over quite a few times. It is not for nothing that one of them became known as the 'tractor factory'.

    All the best,

    Bob

  7. Conrad Kinch,

If you think that this is a great find, I can assure you that there are far more 'rediscoveries' to come!

    All the best,

  8. An impressive haul- the under construction houses are particularly nice.

    Cheers,

From what I can remember I used to be able to buy two 'under construction' building kits for the price of one normal building kit.

They also made excellent terrain for FIBUA.

    All the best,

    Bob

  10. Bob,
I had the wooden engine shed on my OO9 narrow guage layout!
    Must be c.45 years ago...
Your shed seems a virtual TARDIS of wargame/modelling memorabilia.
    Best wishes,
    Arthur

  11. Arthur1815,

I think that the wooden engine shed was one of the first model buildings that I bought, and that must have been at least 45 years ago.

I am still sorting out what I found in the crates that were in the shed ... and there is loads more stuff to come!

    All the best,

    Bob
