More terrible news

I woke up this morning to discover the full enormity of the most recent attack upon innocent people in France. It would appear that yet again ordinary people going about their ordinary lives have been killed by a fanatic who sees such actions as justified by their belief and their faith.

Today our sympathies should and must go out to the people of France in general, and the families of the innocent victims in particular, and I deeply and sincerely hope that this will be the last time I will have to comment on such a tragedy.

Finally let us not forget that this fanatic was not a true representative of the religion he espouses, but an example of those whose distorted and bastardised view of the world sees anyone who is not like them as a threat or aberration that needs to be exterminated. One hopes, therefore, that any retribution that follows will be directed where it should be, and not at any of his innocent co-religionists who are no doubt as equally shocked and distressed by what as happened as the rest of us are.

    1. James James,

From what I understand from the broadcast news, that is exactly what happened. The perpetrator was shot dead at the scene by an armed female police officer.

  3. This is sad for those directly affected and for those living in fear of the next attack. However these bloody and painful pinpricks are but a symptom or wake of much worse troubles elsewhere and you cannot solve a problem by treating symptoms. If only I had a suggestion for a quick and easy solution which was just and acceptable to all parties in the Middle East and Noryh Africa for a start. It is unforyunstely much easier to break domrthing than to fix it.

    1. Ross Mac,

Very true. We are paying - and will continue to pay - the cost of a conflict over which we have little influence.

  4. "Finally let us not forget that this fanatic was not a true representative of the religion he espouses, .." and how do we know that to be true?
He seems to be representative of a particular interpretation of Islam and he isn't a loner; he has group support.

    1. Nobby,

The point I was trying to make is that the fanatics who make these attacks may claim to be true Muslims, but do not represent the views or attitudes of the Muslims that I know.

    1. Stanley Martens,

Thanks. I know that not everyone will agree with my point of view, but what I don't want to see a backlash against people who are as innocent as those who have been killed or injured just because they happen to be Muslims.

      All the best,

      Bob

  6. Grim news indeed from one of my fav destinations. As ever all sorts of ordinary folk from numerous religions included in toll of death and injury. These radical Islamic fanatics just do not care a jot about anyone else in any way shape or form.

Very true. Terrorist like this just seem to be in love with killing anyone, and do it regardless of who their victims are.

      All the best,
