Where are they now?

Two years ago I was sorting out the contents of the old garden shed that used to occupy a place at the end of the garden. Over the years it had become a dumping ground for all sorts of wargaming odds and ends, some of which I had almost completely forgotten about.

Amongst the latter were some old Minifigs 'S' Range Prussian Napoleonic figures that I bought and painted in my late teens (i.e. the late 1960s).

Now that my Napoleonic project is well under way, I decided that it might be a good idea to add them to my collection. By filling out the ranks with the four officer figures that I painted, these early figures could be the basis of a Prussian Infantry Division. There are enough Infantry figures to form four Infantry Regiments, enough artillerymen to form an Artillery regiment, and a Mounted Officer who could be the Division's Commander. There is only one problem ... I can't find them!

I have put them somewhere in the storage system in my toy/wargames room, but not where I thought that I had! Once the current mini heat wave that is affecting England subsides somewhat, I hope to spend some time in my toy/wargames room looking for these 'missing' figures. If and when I do find them, they will be the first additional figures to be touched up, varnished, based, and added to my existing collection.

  1. I know how you feel. I went to get my Gn15 stuff that was a retirement present a few years back and was stored in the loft against a suitable day. Yesterday was that day and it isn't there! My garage sheds and spare bedroom have all been overhauled recently so where can it be?

    1. Nobby,

It will be there ... somewhere.

My wife's suggestion is NOT to spend time looking for the 'missing' stuff as it will turn up when you're looking for something else,

Although I am reluctant to admit it, but she is usually right about things like this.

      All the best,

  2. Stu Rat,

The problem is that they are the firing squad!

  3. Ah yes, the inevitable outcome of putting things in a safe place.

I generally find that the best way to find lost things is to go out and buy it new again ..... said article is then guaranteed to surface within a week.

    1. Norm,

Agreed, that is an alternative strategy that usually works.

  4. Don't you just hate that sort of thing? It is especially galling when you aren't even sure what is in your inventory anyhow. That was one of the reasons for buying 'tray stacks' for my Napoleonics and stuff. The downside of that system, though, is they take floor space. They are also inclined to become dusty over time...

A corollary to Norm's acute observation: don't throw anything away. My definition of 'junk' is that which you throw away two weeks before you need it. Urgently.

    1. Still working on my blog posting, by the way. May be a bit longer than I had in mind. Need more pics. I hope it will be an interesting enough read...

    2. Archduke Piccolo,

Over the past few years I have been moving over to using crates and boxes from the Really Useful range. Needless to say the figures - which I have now found - were not in any of them but in one of the old stacker crates that I have yet to replace.

Wargamers don't own junk; just stuff they aren't using at present!

      All the best,

      Bob

    3. Archduke Piccolo,

I am sure that when it is ready, your blog entry will be well worth reading.

Good luck writing it ... and adding some images if possible.

      All the best,

  5. Perhaps they headed for a beach, or at least gone looking for a cold drink?

    1. Ross Mac,

That would be sensible ... but instead they just hid at the bottom of a crate I had forgotten to look into. Mind you, I did find them after Sue and I had been to the beach (actually Herne Bay, in Kent) for lunch and a breath of sea air!

      All the best,

  6. Gone A.W.O.L., eh?! They may have to form your first penal battalion, once the Gendarms have returned them to the Colors. Mom always said that whenever something was lost, it was always in the last place you looked; because after you found it...you stopped looking!

    1. Martin,

Funnily enough I found them almost as soon as I stopped looking for them! They were in a crate that I thought contained something completely different.

With luck they will take part in their first ever wargame very soon.

      All the best,

      Bob
