Today my blog passed another milestone. This is the four thousandth post I have written since I started way back in 2008.
In 2008 I was still working, and although what eventually became THE PORTABLE WARGAME was in its early infancy, I had no idea that it would develop into a proper set of rules that were going to be used by more than just a few wargamers. I also had no idea that I would become a writer and a publisher.
I'm not sure how I am going to celebrate achieving this milestone. There will be no riotous party, specially made cake, or even a glass of champagne. If I'm lucky, I might manage to push a few toy soldiers around on my tabletop ... and that strikes me as being a much more appropriate way to celebrate.
Here's to the next milestone ... five thousand posts!

Congratulations on achieving this milestone.
ReplyDeletePeter,
DeleteCheers! I never thought that I'd ever reach forty posts, let alone four thousand!
All the best,
Bob
Wow, an impressive number of posts Bob. I do really enjoy reading your musings, so keep up the good work. Definitely celebrate with a game or two!
ReplyDeleteSteve J.,
DeleteCheers! I am very pleased to read that you enjoy my ramblings. I find writing a blog helps me to concentrate my thinking and to get projects finished.
I had hope to spend today wargaming ... but because the weather is nice, SWMBO has other ideas, and it looks as if we will be spending at least part of the day outside.
All the best,
Bob
Congrat's on a significant milestone. Always a pleasure to follow the progress of the PW.
ReplyDeleteCrack on then!
Barry Carter,
DeleteCheers! My current project - preparing for my 'Carry On up the Nile' session at COW2019 - is giving me time to think about the PORTABLE COLONIAL WARGAME.
All the best,
Bob
Congratulations! The real success though is not having writing 4,000 posts, its having written that many posts that so many people want to read.
ReplyDeleteHere's the the next decade!
Ross Mac,
DeleteCheers ... and thanks for the great compliment you have paid me. I just try to write the sort of posts that I'd like to read.
All the best,
Bob
Hi Bob,
ReplyDeleteGreat going there since 2008- hope you continue along for many more decades to come. I must say: You've always inspired showing how to do Blogging correctly - you make the supreme effort to answer your readers- this trait I admire and congratulate you on such a fine thorough effort on your part. Well done Friend. Regards. KEV.
Kev Robertson (Kev),
DeleteCheers!
I've always thought that if someone could be bothered to write a comment, the least I should do is to write a reply, even if it was only to say 'Thank you'.
All the best,
Bob
Congrats and well done. You might add (I'm guessing) that when you began you hadn't imagined that your blog would become a central fixture in the hobby blogosphere.
ReplyDeleteI may lift a glass in celebration of your 4,000th (sounds a good enough excuse as any)!
Ed M,
DeleteCheers!
I never, ever expected that my blog would attract so many readers from across the world, nor that it would become so well-known.
Please have a drink for me as well. I cannot drink alcohol (it makes me ill!) but I certainly don't have no objection to others having one on my behalf.
All the best,
Bob
Congrats!
ReplyDeleteJonathan Freitag,

I just wanted to add to the others' congratulations. It's not so much the number of posts - though this does demonstrate admirable and dedicated self-discipline to make yourself sit down to write almost every day - but your creativity in coming up with so much that's worth reading whilst publishing so frequently.
ReplyDeleteAlso, as Kev implied, you are pretty much the most dedicated of the many bloggers I follow when it comes to responding to comments.
Mike Hall,
DeleteCheers! Thank you very much for your very kind comment. I only wish that I had enough time to take all my ideas to fruition.
The feedback I get from regular readers both encourages me to write every day and helps me to develop my ideas. I doubt if the PORTABLE WARGAME would ever have been published without the encouragement of my readers ... who all deserve my grateful thanks.
All the best,
Bob
Cool!
ReplyDeleteGeordie an Exile FoG,

Thats very very impressive Bob, well done. It does show a huge amount of discipline to commit yourself to regular postings. So roll on the next ten years.
ReplyDeleteIndependentwargamesgroup,
DeleteCheers! The funny thing is that it has never felt as if it was a challenge to sit down and write something regularly.
All the best,
Bob
A milestone! I began in December 2002, and haven't yet reached a chainstone... Well done Bob. Still one of my favourite 'go to' blog spots.
ReplyDeleteArchduke Piccolo,
DeleteCheers! Thanks for all the support you have given and comments that you have made. By the way, I had no idea that you had been blogging for so long.
All the best,
Bob
Outstanding work Bob. It's the quality and not just the quantity. 4000! I'm struggling to reach 4.
ReplyDeleteNundanket,
DeleteCheers! I am pleased that you think that you have enjoyed reading my blog, and I wish you well in developing your own.
All the best,
Bob
Bob, your Portable Wargame rules in all their various formats will live on long after you retire from blogging! I think they will become one of the classics of wargaming, a fitting tribute to their author. Best wishes, Anthony
ReplyDeleteAnthony Morton,
DeleteCheers! Many thanks for your kind words about the PORTABLE WARGAME. It certainly seems to have found its niche within the hobby, and I hope that people will continue to enjoy using my rules for some time to come.
All the best,
Bob
