A WINTER-ISH WAR
'This solo mini-campaign was inspired by FINLAND AT WAR: THE WINTER WAR 1939-40 by Vesa Nenye, and saw two imagi-nations, Opeland (which stood in for Finland) and the all-powerful Soviet People’s United Republics or SPUR (which stood in for the Soviet Union) fighting each other over the position of the border between the two countries and possession of the city of Viputa. An early version of the author’s THE PORTABLE WARGAME rules was used to fight the tabletop battles, and the figures, models, and terrain all came from his extensive collections.'It is on sale as a sixty-page, full-colour hardback book for £24.99 (plus postage and packing) or PDF format for £2.99 from Lulu.com.
TROUBLE IN ZUBIA
'This solo mini-campaign was inspired involvement of Great Britain in Egypt and the Sudan during the latter part of the nineteenth century. It involves the imagi-nations of Britannia (Great Britain), Fezia (Ottoman Turkey), and Zubia (Egypt), and sees Britannia interfering in the affairs of Zubia, a semi-independent province of the Fezian Empire. An early precursor to the author’s THE PORTABLE WARGAME rules was used to fight the tabletop battles, and the figures, models, and terrain all came from his extensive collections.'It is on sale as a thirty-two-page, full-colour hardback book for £19.99 (plus postage and packing) or PDF format for £2.49 from Lulu.com.

Hi Bob,
ReplyDeleteBoth look very interesting and I have a question for you. Do they each include the version of the rules you used to fight the battles covered?
Also, your books usually feature the contents on the back page - any chance of this detail?
Although my birthday is not until September I am thinking that both of these will make great presents - I may well suggest that to the Mem Sahib!
All the best,
DC
David Crook,
DeleteI didn't include the rules in the books because they were never really intended for publication, but when I mentioned that I was preparing A WINTER-ISH WAR as a book, I started to get requests for copies and never thought to add the rules. I suppose that I should have done, and if I ever produce a 2nd edition, I might.
I haven't listed the contents on the back cover if the books, but I'll certainly list them in a forthcoming blog entry.
All the best,
Bob
I've got my orders in...
ReplyDeleteArchduke Piccolo,
DeleteThank you ... and perhaps you might consider doing something similar for some of your battles and campaigns one day. I'd certainly buy a copy if you did.
All the best,
Bob
I'll give it some thought!
DeleteArchduke Piccolo,
DeleteI do hope so!
All the best,
Bob
Archduke, I am in Australia at the moment but I also purchased both. I'll pop around when I am back. Cheers
DeleteJacko,
DeleteThanks for buying the books. I hope that you enjoy reading them.
All the best,
Bob
That was too easy. As our American cousins say 'candy from a baby'!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to reading them.
Barry Carter,
DeleteThank you. At 15% off, it really made the price of each book more affordable.
All the best,
Bob
Bob -thank you for doing that. Have ordered both hardbacks - just in time for the discount. Looking forward to a stimulating and enjoyable read. I found the original "Winterish War" particularly inspirational and it will be nice to read it again.
ReplyDeleteDavid Bradley,
DeleteThanks for both buying the books and for you kind comments.
I hope that you enjoy both when they arrive.
All the best,
Bob
