Other people's Portable Wargame battle reports: Yet another American Civil War battle!

Martin Smith recently posted another American Civil War battle report on the PORTABLE WARGAME Facebook page, and it gives me great pleasure to share some of the photographs he took with my regular blog readers.

As can be seen for the following photographs, Martin used his magnificent 2mm-scale figures to fight this battle on what appears to be an embroidered cloth napkin or table mat, with the lines of embroidery acting as the grid lines. It makes an excellent alternative to a chessboard, and must make the whole thing even more portable.

  1. Hi Bob,
I certainly admire Gamers who paint up 2mm. I've two unpainted 2mm Armies by Irregular- ACW 'Union' and an 'Afgan Army'. I won't be painting them up and I will probably sell them - they cost me $70 AUS. Oh, thanks for taking a look at my USS Cruiser. Cheers. KEV.

    1. Kev Robertson (Kev),

Martin's figures look great, and I wish I was able to paint my 15mm-scale figures as well as he paints his 2mm-scale figures ... but 2mm-scale is too small for me to paint! I might have managed to do so twenty years ago, but not nowadays.

      All the best,

      Bob

  2. Yeah, I've got two 2mm armies also--ACW Union and Confederate, plus a camp. I keep thinking I should do something with them, but as my buddy observed, if you're really going that small, why not just use counters? Like KEV, I will probably sell the stuff. Inasmuch as I bought them from a friend for $30, I'm hopeful I'll make my money back.

Say, Bob--are you CERTAIN you don't want to go into 2mm?

    Tantalizingly your,

    Chris

    1. Chris,

Martin's figures look wonderful ... but they're just too small for me to paint, so thanks for your kind offer, but I'm afraid that I'll have to pass on buying your 2mm-scale ACW armies!

      All the best,

      Bob

  3. I may have mentioned it before..........I am a big fan of 2mm blocks. They are not too difficult to paint once you dump the idea of detail. My favourites are the Irregular Miniatures Renaissance range which look like contemporary battle maps when drawn up in array on the board.

    1. Barry Carter,

I'm sure that the 2mm-scale blocks would be easier to paint than the individual figures, but as I get older and my eyesight gets worse, I'm sticking to 15mm-scale as the smallest figures I will use.

      All the best,

      Bob
