Renaming Army Blue …

Yesterday I was preparing another batch of my ARMY BLUE figures for varnishing and basing when I was reminded of a comment made by Arthur Harman. The red kepis really do stand out … and as this headgear will be worn by all the figures in this new FUNNY LITTLE WARS/PORTABLE WARGAME army, I have decided that I should rename them ARMY KEPI ROUGE.

At some point in the future, I will give all my FUNNY LITTLE WARS/PORTABLE WARGAME armies ‘proper’ (i.e. imagi-nation names) … but until then they will remain ARMY KHAKI, ARMY BLACK, and ARMY KEPI ROUGE.

  1. Hi BOB,
Looking forward to seeing the Imagi-nation names you devise. We are nearing a lessening of Restrictions for Lock Down on the 11th Oct...looking forward to the Hobby Shop opening up. Stay well and safe there in London. Cheers. KEV.

    1. Kev Robertson (Kev),

I may well use one of the existing imagi-nation names that I have on my list of such countries.

It will be great once the lockdown begins to ease and you can out and about again.

      Keep safe and keep well.

      All the best,

      Bob

    2. I am building a couple paper regiments for Glory 1861 and will probably name at least one of them for one of the American states in your 1891 world. (The other will be a US Regular battalion.)

    3. Jennifer,

I would be interested to know which names you choose. As you no doubt realised, the names I used came from a number of possible sources such as tribal names and the like.

      All the best,

      Bob

  2. Hello there Bob,

I think giving the armies names within your world of 1891 would be a good idea!

    All the best,

    1. David Crook,

It is certainly one of the options I am looking at.

  3. Hi Bob -
Naming countries whilst keeping in with the colour, or some other theme, can be quite fun. If short of a name, I'll look at the language the country the army more or less approximates. For a while, the Czar ruled over Porphyria (purple), but I've changed it to Izumrud-Zeleniya (emerald green). And Azeitona, also 'green' is more cognate to the Portuguese 'olive'. Great fun for an idle few minutes...

    Cheers,
    Ion

    1. Archduke Piccolo (Ion),

I’ve always liked your colour-related imagi-nation names! I’ve seen others that were based upon food and wine (e.g. Bad Limburg), and even one that contained puns. I’m not sure what naming convention I’ll choose, but I have considered reviving Laurania (which was invented by Churchill) and Maldacia (which started out as a sort of misspelt anagram of Dalmatia).

      All the best,

      Bob

  4. I remember a television advert many years ago for (Milk Tray?) chocolates featuring Stadden Seven Years War figures where the regiments were named after the chocolates in the box eg Montelimar Dragoons.

    2. Ronniec,

I did some quick online research, and it appears that it was Mackintosh’s ‘Good News’ chocolates. I also discovered that these chocolates were the basis of the Beatles track ‘Savoy Truffle’ on ‘The Beatles’ album.

      All the best,

      Bob
