War Plan Orange

The annual Conference of Wargamers (COW) took place last weekend, and I created a video for a session about the United States' War Plan Orange (i.e. its plan for a future war with Japan).

I have now uploaded it to the Wargaming Miscellany YouTube channel and it can be seen here.

  2. Interesting how similar the Japanese and American plans were, and there relationships to the eventual evens. I think the mid 20's would be a very interesting time frame for an American/ Japanese war game.

    1. Mark Cordone,

It is interesting to compare the two war plans, and the degree of overlap reflects the different national attitudes. The US wanted to fight their decisive action as far away from the West Coast (and the Panama Canal) as possible, and the Japanese wanted to fight theirs's close to the homeland so that they could minimise the length of their supply lines.

The 1920s would be an interesting time frame for fighting a US-Japanese naval war. Both side would have had a small number of aircraft carriers armed with biplanes and a mixture of early and super-dreadnought battleships.

      All the best,

      Bob
