After feeling rather rough for the last few days, I woke up this morning feeling much better. So much so, that I have already set out the terrain and forces for the first of my Eastern Front/Great Patriotic War mini-campaign battles, which I hope to fight later today.
I also spent some time working on an MS Paint-based version of my grid 'master' for making 8 x 8 square gridded maps. It was even simpler to create than its MS PowerPoint equivalent, and should be easier to use. It looks like this:

Hi Bob,
ReplyDeleteGlad your feeling better to-day. Hopefully the worst of the cold is over. You'l be looking forward to your first WW2 Battle for the Mini-Campaign. I'll keep a watch out for your future posts. Best Wishes. KEV.
Kev Robertson (Kev),
DeleteIt was great to wake up not feeling under the weather ... and to actually feel like fighting a wargame!
All the best,
Bob
Glad to hear you're on the mend and hopefully SWMBO is too. The map looks good and hope to see some campaign action soon.
ReplyDeleteSteve J.,
DeleteCheers! Waking up without a bunged up nose and headache was a great relief to both of us. We are not yet back to normal, but we are both feeling much better than we did.
As to the wargame ... well the first battle is set up and ready to go!
All the best,
Bob
Good to read that you're feeling better Bob.
ReplyDeleteMaudlin Jack Tar,
DeleteCheers! As the day has gone on, I’ve felt better and better!
All the best,
Bob
I like the grid master map. I've always found Paint to be surprisingly versatile when it comes to mapping.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you are recovering and I look forward to reading the battle report!
Thank you for your time,
Patrick Walsh
Patrick W (Patrick Walsh),
DeleteThanks for your best wishes. I hope that the cold will be completely gone by the weekend.
I use MS Paint a lot ... and this was easier to create than the MS PowerPoint one I made. I think that it will be my default map drawing program from now one.
All the best,
Bob
Good to hear you’re getting back to normal Bob.
ReplyDeleteNundanket,
DeleteCheers! It’s taken longer than I expected to get better ... but there is every indication that I’ll be completely over it by the weekend.
All the best,
Bob
Hi Bob -
ReplyDeleteGreat to see you're well on the mend.
If I'm identifying your 'cut and paste' set-up correctly, I'm rather taken with the idea! Maybe I should upgrade my own mapping template, which at the moment is simply the 15x12 hex array.
Cheers,
Archduke Piccolo.
Archduke Piccolo,
DeleteCheers! Its good to feel so much better than I did, and to actually feel willing and able to do something!
The way I use my template is to utilise the MS Paint 'Select' tool option to select the square I want to copy, copy it, and then paste it where I want it to go. Because you can zoom in quite closely, it is possible to position the copied square accurately, even though there is no 'click to grid' option in MS Paint. The copied square can be turned by ninety degrees left or right, or through one hundred and eight degrees, or it can be flipped vertically or horizontally before it is pasted into position, which gives the user lots of options.
I have not tried producing a hex equivalent in MS Paint, but I expect that it would be possible. Mind you, your existing maps look great anyway, so you don't really need to upgrade your existing template.
All the best,
Bob
Hi Bob,
ReplyDeleteGlad you're on the mend. Have you looked at using Roll20.net for your online games? Its an excellent resource, though initially intended for RPGs and dungeon delving, you can set it up with square or hex grids, set up your maps as backgrounds and import your counters as token, which can be set up with various custom stats and its all for free. I'm using it for dungeon delving with Warhammer Quest, hex based space battles and even a solitaire WWII sub game. I cant recommend it enough.
Jason Hall,
DeleteThanks for your best wishes on my getting better ... and thanks for suggestion that I look at Roll20.net. I hope to do so later today, and if it is as good as you say it is, I can foresee myself using it.
All the best,
Bob
