One scenario that has been reused many times is HG Well's 'Battle of Hook's Farm' for his book, LITTLE WARS.
Very recently, fellow blogger Archduke Piccolo has revisited this scenario as part of his ongoing series of colonial battles. This one saw the forces of the Settee Empire of Turcowaz trying to remove troops from Izumrud-Zelenia who had raided across the border between the two countries. The Turcowazian and Zelanian troops both tried to occupy Hookah Ciftlik, and ended up fighting an encounter battle for possession of the local farm, taverna, Ylerif Mosque, and Hassan the Hermit's Hovel.
A comprehensive battle report can be read on Archduke Piccolo's blog, and the following photographs will hopefully entice you to pay his blog a visit to read it.

I think I might have commented on this blog, sympathizing with the extended Hook family.
ReplyDeleteSteve8,
DeleteOver the years, all this action must have played merry havoc with the family's planting and harvesting!
All the best,
Bob
Must be a great feeling knowing other gamers are enjoying you rules and posting about their games.
ReplyDeleteRay Rousell,
DeleteThere are two things that I have done in wargaming that give me a feeling of pride. The first is helping develop the Matrix Game concept, and the second is developing the PORTABLE WARGAME.
The PW has really shown that a simple set of rules can produce complex and challenging results, and the gridded tabletop lends itself to distanced wargaming. The latter has come into its own during the current pandemic, and has helped isolated wargamers to fight against opponents who they could not visit.
All the best,
Bob
Hi Bob,
ReplyDeleteInteresting to see 'Hooks Farm' being employed as a framework for a PWG. I've done this myself many years ago with a Colonial themed fictional Battle between British and German armies- lot of fun...I may do this with my latest 18mm Imaginations Project. Cheers. KEV.
Kev Robertson (Kev),
DeleteThe scenario is a great one for an encounter battle between balanced forces, and as has been shown, it can be adapted to all sorts of different locations.
All the best,
Bob
Thanks for posting this, Bob! There will be a couple more coming up soon - one as part of the occasional 'Mesofluvian' campaign, the other a second encounter between the Azeitonian colonists and the m'Butu.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Ion
Archduke Piccolo (Ion),
DeleteI get great enjoyment from reading your battle reports, which is why I always like to share them with other regular blog readers.
I look forward to reading more of the soon.
All the best,
Bob
G'Day Bob, great to see portable wargames getting such well deserved coverage. Cheers Greg
ReplyDeleteDelta Coy (Greg),
DeleteThe users have really taken the game in all sorts of directions, and I love sharing what they have done with other blog readers.
All the best,
Bob
