My most recent blog post was written on Wednesday morning and scheduled for publication on Saturday. Unfortunately, just before midnight on Wednesday evening I fell over when my weak left leg gave way … and I broke both bones in my lower right leg, just above the ankle.
Sue was unable to help me get up and phoned for an ambulance. It arrived less than fifteen minutes later, and by 1.00am we were in the Accident & Emergency Department of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich.
Both my legs and ankles were X-Rayed, and it was at that point that the fractures were identified. By 10.00am I was moved to the CDU (Clinical Decisions Unit) within the A&E Department … and I’ve been there ever since.
oh, that's awful for you - best wishes for your comfort and speedy recovery
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear this as it's an unfortunate setback no matter what your age and state of health.
ReplyDeleteI was on the lookout for you, but assumed I just missed catching you, given 7000 people through the doors, along with all the other friends I missed speaking to.
I hope Sue is coping what has happened to you. I'm sure she must be quite worried too.
I am really sorry to hear that Bob and I know how much you were looking forward to Salute. I hope you make a speedy recovery and get home soon.
ReplyDeleteOh, dear. I'm sorry to hear that, and it certainly explains why we didn't see you at Salute - I know you were looking forward to going.

Oh no. Wishing you the very very best. 15 minutes for an ambulance to arrive is outstanding. Let's hope the rest of your care is up to that standard.
ReplyDeleteSteve
Oh dear Bob, that's rotten luck! And you are still in the hospital? I do hope you are being well treated, and will soon be back home and on the mend! Myself and many others will be thinking of you.

ReplyDeleteHi Bob
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrible thing to happen, but at least the ambulance arrive quite quickly. This sort of accident can so easily undermine your confidence in the future. Hope that they can get you back home soon, and that you can get mobile again soon.
best regards
Paul
Sorry to hear of your dilemma, I hope that it is not a bad break and little discomfort. A good excuse for extensive 'research'. Knowing hospitals these days you'll be out and about in no time.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear your news Bob. It sounds painful, but hopefully you had some decent pain medication. Will you be having your leg plastered? In any event I suspect it’ll be jolly inconvenient and a major hassle with regards to your mobility. Time is a great healer and I trust you’ll be getting better every day.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes,
Geoff
My prayers for both Sue and you, get well soon!
ReplyDeleteDistressing news! and sounds a traumatic experience for both you and Sue. I hope you are past the acute pain phase and are able to have an uneventful recovery. Sounds as if you will be adjusting to a new "normal" after this.
ReplyDeleteOh no! Terrible news! My thoughts and prayers are with you for a speedy recovery!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear your news. Particularly frustrating when you had all the arrangements in place for a day at Salute.
ReplyDeleteI hope you find ways to keep your mind busy while your leg has to be rested. Best wishes, Dave
Sorry to hear this, as any kind of health emergency can really unnerve someone. At least you didn't have to face it alone; Sue sounds like a rock to steady yourself in these situations. Sorry you missed something you were looking forward to like Salute. Take care and get plenty of rest knowing your many friends are here for you. Wishing you a swift recovery.
ReplyDeleteow ow ow! So sorry to hear about your fall and break and missing Salute and everything. Best wishes for your health and comfort.

ReplyDeleteBlimey Bob, so sorry to hear about this latest mishap. Wishing you a speedy recovery and hope Sue is able to cope too.
ReplyDeleteBad luck Bob. I hope you are out of hospital and up and about again as soon as possible.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your fall and broken bones, Bob.
ReplyDeleteAnd missing Salute show too.
Hope you are up and 'running' soon.
It's not a pleasant experience when you lose 'power' in a leg and go tumbling, as I know from my slipped back disc deadening my left foot nerves and my tumbling in road in past. Luckily cuts and bruises for me. So I hope you get your confidence back as well as your leg bones sorted soon.
Carl, N. Yorks.
So sorry to read this Bob, you are certainly in the wars at the moment. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteLee.
BOB,
ReplyDeleteWhat rotten luck- hope you can return home and are comfortable. KEV.
Bob -
ReplyDeleteYou don't do things by halves do you?! What lousy luck - just when things were threatening to look up, too. I just wish I could wish you more than to get back soon to your more perky and perambulant self.
All my very best wishes,
Ion
Thanks to everyone who has written a comment about my accident. They were much appreciated and have helped keep my spirits up during some recent dark days and even darker nights. Since I wrote this blog post I’ve passed through the A&E Department and the Clinical Decisions Unit (AKA Casualty Dumping Unit) and I’m now on a medical ward … and whilst a care plan is being devised so that I can go home, the underlying cause of my accident - the sudden collapse of my left leg - is being fully investigated.
ReplyDeleteAll the best,
Bob
