HMS Empress in action!

Although I have been very busy today visiting my father in his care home (and getting stuck in a traffic jam on the M25 for nearly two hours!), I managed to put enough time aside to take of photograph of HMS Empress in action.

This photograph gives some idea how big the completed model is when next to 15mm-scale figures made by Essex Miniatures.

  1. I had not realized that the turret turned. That is a great feature, Bob. Well done, sir.

  2. Bluebear Jeff,

Thanks for the very kind comment.

It was quite simple to do ... so I did it ... and it makes the model that little bit better.

    All the best,

    Bob

I am with jeff, that's great that the turret turns! I think those redcoats should be running for cover and grabbing anything that will stay put when the blast comes!

  5. Don M,

I hope that she will be the first of many such ships.

    All the best,

  6. Peter Douglas,

A dowel was needed to hold the turret in position, and by not glueing it, it in meant that it would turn. Simple ... but effective!

I am sure that the Royal Navy will not open fire until the Marines have moved farther inland ... but you never know!

    All the best,

    Bob

  7. What a beautiful ship!

Looks just right for supporting the troops or fighting at sea. I find that the toyish look seems to banish difficulties of scale.

  8. Ross Mac,

That comment - coming from you - is true praise indeed!

I totally agree with you about how the 'toy boat' look of the model helps to overcome the visual problem of scale. It shouldn't ... but it just seems to work.

    All the best,

    Bob

  12. Hi Bob,

Truly magnificent! At the risk of repeating myself this really does prove the cartoon idea in action and I would also echo Ross in the fact that that the toy look works better for this style of model due to the fudged nature of the scale.

Looking forward to both emulating these (perhaps we can try a game out using them with MoBaS at some point)and getting some on the table and in action!

    All the best,

    DC

  13. David Crook,

Many thanks for your effusive comment. The 'cartoon' models work for reasons I cannot quite explain.

I look forward to seeing our opposing fleets in action at some time soon - I hope - and MOBAS would be ideal res to use.

    All the best,

    Bob
