Back in March 2012 I featured the following photographs of a then-unfinished modern version of a typical classic German tinplate 'toy' battleship that was being built by someone who had read my blog.
The hull was made of fibreglass and the superstructure and guns were made from copper and soldered .015" brass.
Whilst I was away the gentleman who was building this model contact me to inform me that the model was now finished. Furthermore he sent me some photographs of the completed model (along with permission to publish them on my blog) ... and here they are!
This is truly a tremendously impressive piece of work, and in my opinion it deserves the highest praise as well as well-earned recognition for its builder ... and I want one!

Such a magnificent vessel - and the finish! Stunning!
ReplyDeleteAmazing craftsmanship.
ReplyDeleteFantastico!!
ReplyDeleteArchduke Piccolo,
ReplyDeleteI would love to know how he managed to achieve the quality of finish on the paintwork.
All the best,
Bob
Bill,
ReplyDeleteThe model took over two years to build ... and it shows!

ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree with you; it is a wonderful model.
All the best,
Bob
Add a couple of verys in front of very nice.
ReplyDeleteThese are the skills and patience I wish I had.
Xaltotun of Python,
ReplyDeleteIt is a very impressive model ... and it captures the 'look' of the old tinplate toy battleships.
I don't have the patience to complete a project like this, but I have great respect - and admiration - for someone who can.
All the best,
Bob
Fantastic work! I wonder what the wind up mechanism does? Is it for the propeller?
ReplyDeleteChris,
ReplyDeleteAs far as I know, the clockwork motor is used to power the model.
All the best,
Bob
That is a perfect example of the term,"masterpiece". Santa should bring one to all of us who are good...
ReplyDelete...or at least try to be.

Absolutely beautiful. What craftsmanship. The colour scheme is so pleasing to the eye.
ReplyDeleteWow! That is a work of art!
ReplyDeleteStunning, really!
ReplyDeleteAlan Charlesworth,
ReplyDeleteThe colour scheme is very attractive ... and totally in keeping with the style of the original tinplate 'toy' battleships.
All the best,
Bob
Fitz-Badger,
ReplyDeleteI think that it deserves a place in an art exhibition. It is beautiful to look at and the craftsmanship is superb.
All the best,
Bob
Gonsalvo,
ReplyDeleteI totally agree ... and I am in danger of running out of superlatives that I can use to describe this model!
All the best,
Bob
Magnificent ! Thanks for posting it, Bob.
ReplyDeleteCorporal_Trim,
ReplyDeleteIt is a magnificent model ... and there is more to come!
All the best,
Bob
That is just beautiful. I only hope there is enough mind-bleach for the image of an elderly Danish gentleman winding it up to put in his bath.
ReplyDeleteDoug,
ReplyDeleteI suspect that there are a lot of people out there who would love to own a 'toy' like this one.
All the best,
Bob
