Besides having a bit of a tidy up of the detritus that seems to have accumulated of late in my toy/wargames room, I spent part of yesterday afternoon designing the cover for my forthcoming book about gridded naval wargames. I chose a navy blue colour for the cover and an image taken from one of my Zubian mini-campaign battles. The result looks like this:

Last night Caesar put on a game of Broadsides in which we kind of refought
the 1914 Battle of Coronel, one day earlier than it's 110th anniversary. I

Bob,
ReplyDeleteCertainly you have captured the spirit of your grid based Naval wargames in one go - excellent work of the Cover- it all looks just right. Cheers. KEV.
Kev Robertson,
DeleteI did think of using a photograph that just had ships in it, but felt at this was a much more interesting image.
All the best,
Bob
Lee Hadley,

Bob, I agree: the cover looks very good, and the scene of two different types of ship lying off a coastal fortification is more interesting visually than a plain seascape.
ReplyDeleteArthur Harman,
DeleteThat was my thinking as well ... and it may attract wargamers who have yet yo try naval and/or gridded Wargames.
All the best,
Bob
I agree with the others: the cover is eye-catching, attractive and interesting. I think it also conveys the idea there might be more therein than ship-to-ship[ or fleet actions, but something of combined ops as well. Well chosen!
ReplyDeleteArchduke Piccolo,
DeleteMany thanks for your very positive comments.
I wanted to feature pictures of model ships on a gridded tabletop on the cover, and after going through all the ones I had, this looked the best and - as you write - showed that ships were often used in combined operations.
All the best,
Bob
Very handsome cover!
ReplyDeleteJonathan Freitag,
DeleteCheers old chap!

Splendid cover Bob!

Tradgardmastare (Alan),
DeleteI hope that having an attractive cover will help to sell a few copies!
All the best,
Bob
That's a very attractive cover Bob. My first thought was that it seems to really capture the spirit of the rules but it is also intriguing enough that if I saw it in a rack at a wargame show I'd be tempted to pick up to find out more.
ReplyDeleteRoss Mac,
DeleteThat was exactly my thinking when I selected this particular image for the cover. Hopefully it will help the book to sell ... although I have yet to see copies of any of my books on sale at wargame shows.
All the best,
Bob
