I have been waiting since the end of April for Lulu.com to supply me with some up-to-date sales figures, and yesterday they notified me that they are now available! Unfortunately, they no longer differentiate between sales of the different electronic editions and printed editions of my books, lumping them together as either eBooks (Kindle and PDF editions) and Printed Books (Paperbacks and Hardbacks) respectively.
In actual fact, the figures they have supplied do not include any non-Lulu.com sales made after 30th June, but at least they give me some idea how well my books have sold since lockdown began.
In early April, my sales figures looked like this:
My current sales figures (as of yesterday) look like this:
It is encouraging to see that almost every book that I have written has sold at least one copy during the lockdown, and that sales of THE PORTABLE WARGAME and DEVELOPING THE PORTABLE WARGAME remain buoyant.

If they can't give you a fuller breakdown, how can you check that your royalty payments are correct? For that matter, how can they work out what they should be paying you?
ReplyDeleteOne of the advantages of modern organisations like Lulu is supposed to be that they don't have the archaic and unreliable accounting systems that have typified traditional publishing groups.
Mike Hall,
DeleteHaving looked at the figures again, it should be possible to sort them out using the product number as a guide, but it would make it rather tiresome and time consuming to do it that way. The figures as currently presented are none too used-friendly ... but at least I now have some figures to work with!
All the best,
Bob
I really don't understand why Ultima Cruzada isn't a bigger seller. It's indispensable to anyone interested in the SCW.
ReplyDeleteTrebian,
DeleteIt’s a slow-burn seller, and it regularly gets recommendations on the SCW Facebook page.
All the best,
Bob
Hi Bob,
ReplyDeleteYour Portable Colonial Wargame book seems to be having good sales of 'Printed' copies- certainly a good jump in sales. Congratulations on such overall healthy figures. Back in the 1980s I wrote and Illustrated my book - 'Colonial Scratch Modelling for Wargamers'...the main feature was 'Rorkes Drift'...there was a hundred copies- many sold locally though the bulk went to Terry Wise of Athena Books in the UK...it was my only book - and I'm glad I did do it. Cheers. KEV.
Kev Robertson (Kev),
DeleteCheers! The PCW has sold well, and when my current Amazon sales figures are added, I expect the number to rise.
I never realised that you had written and published a book! I’d buy a copy if it was still available.
All the best,
Bob
Hi Bob,
DeleteMy book was Softback with a yellow cover - if you ever find a copy it'd be like finding a gold coin in the desert - it would be a pretty rare book by now. I still have the original B&W photos that were used for the printing- and also duplicated in color. Cheers. KEV.
Kev Robertson (Kev),
DeleteI’ve done an online search for your book, but have yet to find a copy. I will keep looking ... just in case I can find a copy!
Is there any chance that you might feature some of your photographs on your blog? I’m sure that I’m not the only person who would enjoy seeing them.
All the best,
Bob
Kev Robertson (Kev),
DeleteThanks to John Armatys, I have now ordered a copy of your book!
All the best,
Bob
Hi Bob,
DeleteThat is unreal news - I thought it would be impossible. When you receive the Book - please overlook the mistakes - I should have had it all Proof Read before printing. Good news- Thanks. Cheers. KEV.
Kev Robertson (Kev),
DeleteJohn Armatys is an internet ninja, and found a copy on sale via Abe Books.
I look forward to receiving my copy ... even if it does contain a few typos!
All the best,
Bob
Abe books have one https://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?cm_sp=SearchF-_-topnav-_-Results&kn=colonial%20Scratch%20Modelling%20for%20Wargamers&sts=t
ReplyDeleteSadly the postage is almost the same as the price of the book...
John Armatys,
DeleteThanks for finding this for me. The cost of postage is rather high ... but I may well still buy it!
All the best,
Bob
John Armatys,
DeleteIt turns out that the seller is in the UK, and have only charged me for First-class postage ... which considerable reduced the cost.
All the best,
Bob
That's brilliant! Well done!!
DeleteJohn Armatys,
DeleteWell, I would not have been able to buy a copy if you had not found it for me!
All the best,
Bob
