Arriba Espana!

After yesterday’s news that a copy of my 1989 book, ARRIVA ESPANA!, was being sold online by Oxfam for £22.00, I decided to see if I could find the original text file of the book. It took a bit of time, but I found it on one of my backup drives. I saved it onto my PC and read through it ... and was pleasantly pleased to find that it was better than I remember.

I am giving serious thought to republishing ARRIBA ESPANA! in the near future. I think that it needs some minor revisions (e.g, improved layout, revised organisation charts), but these should not take too long to do. I have two other books in the pipeline, and this could be seen as one job too many, but I find that swapping between projects can help me to maintain enthusiasm for them. I am also currently working to painting some vehicles for my Eastern Front/Great Patriotic War project and doing this will fit nicely in the breaks whilst I am waiting for paint to dry.

  1. Hello there Bob,

I remember these as being a cracking set of rules back in the day so bringing them out again and updated would be a great idea - perhaps in conjunction with Ultimate Cruzada for a big glossy Spanish Civil War one stop solution!

    All the best,

    DC

    1. David Crook,

Cheers! Re-reading them I can see the inklings of some of the concepts that I have included in the PW rules.

I did think of combining the two books into one ... but felt that would be a big unfair on people who had already bought LA ULTIMATE CRUZADA.

      All the best,

      Bob

    1. Simon,

Thanks for your kind offer. It is the 2014 version that I am using as a basis for the re-published edition of the book.

      All the best,

      Bob

    2. I originally bought a copy from Gamers in Exile in the late '80s and I managed to obtain a new copy from Partizan press (for much less than £22). I for one would enjoy seeing a new edition especially since you now have another 30 years experience 😉
      Take Care,
      Tony.

    3. Unknown (Tony),

The changes I have in mind are cosmetic rather that anything else. Other than improving the layout of the numerous charts and correcting any errors I have found, I’m redrawing the organisation charts and adding a bibliography.

      All the best,

      Bob

  3. Hi Bob,
It is fortunate to have a Computer with a memory that goes back to retrieve older documents. A good idea to re-publish the book. Stay safe and well there in London. Regards. KEV.

    1. Kev Robertson (Kev),

For some years I’ve saved old documents in a variety of different formats, including as rich text files (rtf) p. Even when my latest version of MS Word has difficulty opening very old doc format files, it always seems to be able to open rtf files.

      All the best,

      Bob
