In Darkest Aithiops: The Battle of Limpopo Bend: first battle of the campaign has been fought

The first battle between the Azeitonians and the m'Butu has been fought ... and a report on the battle can be found on Archduke Piccolo's blog.

The location of the Battle of Limpopo Bend is indicated by the red arrow.

I enjoyed this battle report so much that I almost (and it was very touch-and-go!) stopped work on my present Eastern Front/Great Patriotic War project to get some of my Colonial figures out of storage and onto the tabletop. The temptation was great, but I managed to resist it ... this time! I am not so sure that if this campaign proves to be as enjoyable to read about as it obviously was to take part in, I know that my resistance will be sorely tested.

  1. The Archduke does really good campaign reports and this is already looking like it will live up to the standard set by The First Blacklands War or the exploits of the Baluchistan Armed Revolutionary Front.

    1. Mike Hall,

Archduke Piccolo’s blog is always well worth reading, and his campaign/battle reports are outstandingly good.

      All the best,

      Bob

  2. Game looks both fun to play and visually pleasing. I think it is fun to jump between projects/periods, keeps the enthusiasm going.

    1. Tradgardmastare,

I totally agree with your comments, both with regard to this particular campaign and maintaining ones enthusiasm by swopping between periods every so often.

      All the best,

      Bob

  3. Bob and others - You say SUCH nice things about my blog...
Bob, do continue to resist temptation. I am very much looking forward to reading up your Great Patriotic War.

Mike Hall - I'm hoping to 'get in' the next action in the 'Long Live the Revolution' campaign very soon. But the likelihood is that the second battle of the m'Butuland expedition will be played out sooner.
    Cheers,
    Ion

    1. Archduke Piccolo,

I hope to resits the temptation ... but you are making it very difficult for me to do so!

      All the best,

  4. I can't wait to go to His Grace's blog and read the post. I must say, the chance to do this sort of campaign with Ion - well, sir, you're a lucky man. The map and the tables really stir the imagination. Having just read another post on colonial warfare today (some disquiet with it as a gamin period), I'm wondering how balanced this battle is. Cheers, Michael

    1. Mad Padre (Michael),

I wish that I were a participant rather than an observer ... but alas, I am not!

During the current climate, Colonial wargaming does raise some issues, but studying the Colonial wars in Africa and India has given me a fairly detailed knowledge of the colonised areas before the Europeans arrived, and a greater respect for what indigenous people achieved. It was often far more economically, socially, and artistically developed than the so-called ‘civilisation’ that was imposed on them.

      All the best,

      Bob
