Yesterday morning I was sent an invitation to attend a Masonic meeting in just under a fortnight's time, my first since the COVID-19 pandemic struck. I was on the verge of accepting the invitation when my wife asked me if I had tried on my suit or my Morning Dress since I had had my operation in December. I had not ... and when I did, I discovered that the trousers no longer fit!
The waistbands of both my suit and my Morning Dress trousers sit exactly over my stoma, which means that it cannot do its job properly. The problem had not arisen before as I have been wearing jogging bottoms since the operation as I have had no occasion to wear anything vaguely formal. Luckily, I have been able to buy a new suit with a larger waistband online, and it should be available for me to collect this afternoon. In the meantime, I now have to go through my wardrobe and check if the rest of my trousers still fit! If they don’t, it looks as if I will be paying a few visits to the local gentleman's outfitters over the next week or so.
My Dad has the same problem with normal trousers and his nurse put him onto a company that makes clothing for those with stomas. Not the most fashionable wear admittedly, but then Dad is in his mid-80's and not a big issue, but he swears by them as they are very comfortable and put no pressure on the stoma.
ReplyDeleteSteve J.,
DeleteThanks for the advice. I’ll have a word with my stoma nurse.
I’m all right with trousers that are high waisted, but my current suit trousers have a relatively low waist, which is why the waistband sits across my stoma. The situation arose because the stoma nurse marked the best position for my stoma before my operation, but the surgeon had to put it about two inches higher up, hence the problem.
All the best,
Bob
Hi Bob,
ReplyDeleteI have to chuckle over this- sorry. Gaining weight as you wear more comfortable track pants etc can be a problem. I'm opposite- I'm loosing weight and my formal wear just falls of me- Chris says I should wear my braces- which does work. Best Wishes to you in London. Cheers. KEV.
Kev Robertson (Kev),
DeleteI have actually lost weight since my operation, but because of the situation of my stoma and scar, I need to wear high waisted trousers, hence why I’ve tended to wear jogging bottoms.
I hate wearing braces, although I sometimes have to when wearing Morning Dress. I had a pair of clip on braces that would sometimes unclip themselves without warning, and on one occasion my trousers nearly fell down!
All the best,
Bob
I hope you went for a '70s style, Bob, complete with medallion!
ReplyDeleteMore seriously, it must be a relief to have Covid restrictions easing, and to be able to meet up again.
Best wishes,
Aaron
Prufrock (Aaron),
DeleteI am told that I have no style whatsoever ... so I probably looked more 1870 than 1970!
Life should be getting better after next Monday as the next tier of reduced restrictions kicks in, and we will have much more freedom to meet with other people.
All the best,
Bob
1870 - now that is style! 🐶
DeleteBarry Carter,
DeleteMy joggers are so baggy that a Zouave would be proud to wear them! (I exaggerate ... slightly!)
All the best,
Bob
