I began work on the baseboard some time ago, and got as far as adding some cross-bracing to the underside of the board …
… and giving the top surface two coats of PVA glue to seal it.
Originally, I intended to use the baseboard as it was, but drawing on the experience I gained building my Mucking Flats & Fobbing Marsh Light Railway layout, I decided to cover it with two layers of 5mm-thick foamcore board so that I could include streams or rivers that were inset into the terrain. It also meant that when it is finished, it will be compatible with my model railway layout.
I used A4-sized sheets of foamcore board as this was what I had to hand. These were trimmed to fit.
The first layer was glued in place using PVA glue as follows:

ReplyDeleteI’ve already drawn up a plan for my game board and I’ll be sharing it online in due course.
We are still decluttering (we never realised how much stuff we had!) but aim to put our house on the market by the end of April. We’ve had to slow down somewhat as I am suffering from mobility-related side effects from my radiotherapy. I have seen my GP and have a number of tests booked to take place over the next fortnight that will hopefully identify what treatment I will need to counter the problems I am experiencing.

DeleteThe joy of creating this baseboard is that I have to leave the PVA to dry between each stage, so I can do it whilst I am decluttering. Going back to the baseboard gives me a much-needed break in the decluttering process.

Hi Bob, interesting to see how your board comes along. I would never have thought of using foamcore. Should look great with an inset river. Hope your decluttering is going ok. There are many inspirational short clips on YouTube on minimalism and decluttering. They say for every item you let go you gain more freedom and focus. Quinn

DeleteUsing foamcore is an idea that I picked up from watching a video on YouTube and although it is by no means perfect, it does make some things a lot easier to model.
The decluttering is still ongoing. It’s becoming a bit of a slog BUT looking around my declutterred toy/wargame room, I now appreciate how crowded it was and how it needed to be sorted out. It certainly has given me more freedom and focus.

ReplyDeleteI’ve been seen by a physiotherapist and my GP, and have blood tests and a CT scan booked for early next month. Hopefully this will help my doctor identify what is wrong so that he can sort out some treatment.
Houses in our area tend to sell fairly quickly as they are relatively cheap for London.
