Yesterday I received a comment from Martin Gane in reply to my recent blog post about going to SALUTE. He had read my blog post and on behalf of the South London Warlords he has booked me a mobility scooter from ExCel, thus enabling me to go.
I have now booked my ticket and I am really looking forward to going. It will only be my second time ‘driving’ a mobility scooter (I had to drive and park my father-in-law’s some years ago … and it was a terrifying experience as he had jammed the throttle wide open!) so watch out for me as I zip around the show!
That is excellent news Bob, you should never feel excluded because of a disability and that's a great gesture by the Warlords, I envisage several squashed toes on the day :) My wife just said Sue should get you a set of L Plates! But seriously Bob I hope you have a great day.

DeleteCheers! The offer came on a day when I had been experiencing some considerable problems with my mobility and was certainly able to feel my Black Dog's breath on the back of my neck. It lifted me out of the slough of despond I was beginning to go into ... and Sue says that it was the first time that I'd had a grin on my face for days.
I think that steel toe capped boots might be the order of the day for anyone who I get close to on Saturday. I know what it is like to have your foot run over by a mobility scooter as it happened to me a few years ago ... and I still bear the scars!
All the best,
Bob
That's great news Bob, hopefully we'll bump into each other on the day? Not literally of course???
ReplyDeleteRay Rousell,
DeleteI look forward to seeing you here … and I’ll try not to get too close for the sake of your toes!
All the best,
Bob
Great news I hope you enjoy the show and it will lift your spirits
ReplyDeleteThe Good Soldier Svjek,
DeleteIt is indeed excellent news … and even knowing that I’ll be able to go has made me feel so much better.
All the best,
Bob
Hi Bob,
ReplyDeleteThat is great news and what a fantastic gesture on the part of the Warlords! Have a great time and get plenty of pictures - you can paint a foot on the side of the scooter for every one you run over - remember you need five to make an ace!
All the best,
DC
David Crook,
DeleteI was really surprised and humbled by what the South London Warlords have done for me. As for becoming a mobility scooter ‘Ace’ … well, I’ll see how well I can do by the end of the show!
All the best,
Bob
Bravo; did they also spring for a helmet :) ?
ReplyDeleteEd M,
DeleteI suspect that I’m supposed to provide my own!
All the best,
Bob
Good news! Glad you get to go.
ReplyDeleteMark Cordone,
DeleteIt was a great example of the generosity one can find within the wargaming community. It lifted my spirits no end.
All the best,
Bob
See you there. Actually, that is a good advantage to a mobility scooter... makes you sit out in the crowd.
ReplyDeleteI know, I know. Just... can never resist it...
Rob Young,
DeleteI look forward to seeing you … and I’ll try not to run over your feet for that awful joke!
All the best,
Bob
Enjoy chap! And can’t wait to hear the report
ReplyDeleteDemitri Ioannou,
DeleteCheers! I’ll do the best to take some photos so that I can write report.
All the best,
Bob
That's a really nice move by the South London Warlords. Hope you have a great day. If I see you I'll say hello.
ReplyDeleteNundanket,
DeleteCheers! They went above and beyond what I had any right to expect, for which I am eternally grateful.
I hope to see you there.
All the best,
Bob
Great news Bob, and very nice of the Warlords! Hope to see you scooting around on Saturday!
ReplyDeleteDavid in Suffolk,
DeleteThe Warlords came up trumps and well deserve my eternal gratitude.
I look forward to seeing you at SALUTE.
All the best,
Bob
What a wonderful thing for him/them to do for you!
ReplyDeleteFitz-Badger,
DeleteIt was unexpected but it shows the level of generosity and support there is within the hobby.
All the best,
Bob
What a heartwarming story, so pleased you'll be able to attend the show. All the best Andy
ReplyDeleteDr Beard (Andy),
DeleteI am incredibly grateful to the South London Warlords for what they have done. As you can probably imagine, there have been times recently when my spirits have hit a low point, but this gave me a massive boost to my morale.
All the best,
Bob
You shall enjoy the Ball;)! Not a show I really ever enjoyed, finding it too large, too noisy and frankly a long and expensive day out. If local I would probably change my mind!
ReplyDeleteSteve J.,
DeleteSALUTE isn’t a show that appeals to everyone, mainly because of its size, the noise, and the appalling lighting … but I like to go to meet and chat other wargamers. The location is better than Olympia … and has excellent transport links as it’s on the DLR and the Elizabeth Line. Mind you, if it was not so close to where I live (I can see ExCel from my driveway) I might feel differently.
All the best,
Bob
That’s wonderful news Bob so glad you can attend the event. I hope you will enjoy it. Quinn
DeleteHoorah for the Warlords and for you. May you enjoy the outing.
