Making the connection

After a couple of frustrating days my new computer is now connected to the Internet, and I no longer have to rely upon my old computer (which was becoming very slow) or my laptop (which was difficult to connect to my printers and scanner).

Once I have familiarised myself with Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2007, and have transferred all my files over to the new computer, I hope to resume blogging as usual.

Everything should be back to normal very soon indeed.

  4. Steve,

I will try not to be too technical. My home network is connected via DeVolo power plugs i.e. the computer connect to each other and the Internet modem via the normal electricity sockets. When it works, this means that you can connect any computer anywhere in the house that there is a power socket ... and it is secure, because it does not use a wireless connection.

The problem was that each power plug has to be registered on the system. They were ... but when my wife's computer went wrong a couple of weeks ago the software that held the registrations was corrupted. After that the plugs would sometimes work and sometimes they would not. I had not made a connection between the cause and its effects as I had not realised that the software had been corrupted. This resulted in many hours of frustration and not a little swearing.

In the end all I had to do to solve the problem was to reinstall the software and re-register each power plug, et voila, it worked!

I have a backlog of things that I want to blog about, but it is going to take me a few days to catch up.

    All the best,

    Bob
