A modern version of a classic German 'toy' battleship

Someone who happened upon my recent blog entries about building model warships that were influenced by the designs of German 'toy' battleships of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries has sent me some wonderful photographs of a modern version of of a classic German 'toy' battleship that they are building. He has asked that I do not publish his name, but he has given me permission to publish the photographs of his model in its current (as yet unfinished) state.

The hull is made of fibreglass and the superstructure and guns are made from copper and soldered .015" brass.

It is truly awe inspiring ... and rather puts my own feeble efforts into the shade! I just wish that I had the time and the skill to build such models.

  1. Lovely - but just think how big a table you'd need!

  2. Tim Gow,

More like a hall than a table ... or even better, a lake!

    All the best,

  3. Beautiful! But I think that a fleet of these would call for a drill hall, or a well mown lawn. unless it floats?......

  4. Ross Mac,

Not only will it float ... it will also be clockwork-powered and have radio control!

    All the best,

  6. David Crook,

A squadron of these would be a sight, wouldn't it? If only I had a small lake ... (actually, I would need a large lake to do them justice!).

    All the best,

    Bob

    ... and some!

I just wish that my workmanship was anything like as good.

    All the best,
