I should be at the third day of this year's Connections UK conference ... but unfortunately, I'm not.
This is what I am missing:
I was not be able to attend the last day of the conference because three fingers on my right hand were injured during an incident on my way home on Wednesday. It's my own stupid fault; I should have known better than to get involved!
This is what I am missing:
- Execution (Howard Body)
- Play as Pedagogy (Aggie Hirst)
- Wargaming case study: 'Cheese, butter & milk powder' (Erik Elgersma)
- Empowering Defense wargaming through automation (Dr Karl Selke)
- Validation (Brian Train)
- Selecting, playing and assessing a COTS wargame (A Distant Plain) (Lt Col Neil Stevens & Lt Col Ranald Shephard)
- Wargaming and reality: a case study of the Ukraine conflict 2014-2018 (John Curry)
- Refinement (Graham Longley-Brown)
- Wargame refinement (Phil Pournelle)
- Wargaming lessons identified: a Senior Officer's perspective (Lt Gen (Retd) Sir David Capewell)
- Analysis (Colin Marston)
- US/DoD analysis best and worst practice (Lt Col Rob Burks)
- Designing analytical wargames with a view to successful data capture, management and analysis (Peter Williams)
- In the eye of the beholder? Cognitive challenges in wargame analysis (Rex Brynen)
- Facilitation Clinic: A panel session (Graham Longley-Brown, Rex Brynen, Jim Wallman, Tom Mouat, and Paul Strong)

There's got to be a story there Bob!
ReplyDeleteAlastair,
DeleteThere is ... but it is a far from unusual one I'm afraid.
All the best,
Bob
Sorry to hear that, Bob. I hope there will be no serious damage to your fingers!
ReplyDeleteArthur1815,
DeleteAnti-inflammatories and painkillers are making a great difference to the situation, and as long as I take things easy for a few days, I should be back to normal very soon.
All the best,
Bob
Indeed!
ReplyDeleteSteve-the-Wargamer,
DeleteNot so it so much a tale of derringdo, more derringdon't be so stupid!
All the best,
Bob
I am sorry to hear of your incident and hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteAlan
Tradgardmastare (Alan),
DeleteCheers! Things like this happen, and at least no one was seriously hurt.
All the best,
Bob
Glad to hear you are on the mend
ReplyDeleteFilms not to watch:
Deadpool (I and II)
Kick Ass (I and II)
Geordie an Exile FoG,
DeleteI'll avoid those films ... and any of the DEATH WISH series as well!
All the best,
Bob
My kids .. say no more
DeleteLook after yourself you are needed for CoW 2019 ;)
PS Thank you for a splendid birthday present as I received my first Nugget today :)
Geordie an Exiled FoG,
DeleteI'm already looking forward to COW2019 ... and giving you the chance to try Chris Engle's PBOM.
I hope that you had a great birthday,
All the best,
Bob
Sorry to hear that the incident prevented you from attending, but good on you for stepping in and helping out when it was needed.
ReplyDeleteHope the hand is back in good shape ASAP.
Best wishes,
Aaron
Prufrock (Aaron),
DeleteThanks for your best wishes.
I did what I would hope that most of us would do; come to the aid of someone who was being threatened, and remove or restrain that threat. As to my hand ... well it feels a lot better this morning, and although there is still some stiffness in the joints, I can move my fingers much easier and the pain is much less.
All the best,
Bob
Sorry to read this Bob, glad your hand is on the mend.
ReplyDelete'Lee,
DeleteCheers, old chap! My hand is much better today, and I've managed to write up my reflections on the megagame that was run on the first day of Connections UK 2018.
All the best,
Bob
Best wishes for a speedy recovery. No good deed goes unpunished as they say.
ReplyDeleteNigel Drury,
DeleteThanks for your kind message. The swelling has almost gone down and the stiffness is a lot less pronounced. I just have to remember not to try to grip anything too tightly with my right hand for the time being.
All the best,
Bob
BBC Radio 4 PM programme 1717hrs today (Saturday 8/9/2018) had a brief clip of the Prime Minister (unnamed) speaking to the Russian president. The five minute report included contributions from Jim Wallman and John Bassett.
ReplyDeleteJohn Armatys,
DeleteCheers! I'd just been informed about the broadcast by one of my other regular blog readers, but at present it isn't yet available on catch-up. I intend to listen to it as soon as I can.
All the best,
Bob
