Over the last month or so I've acquired quite a few new items for my collections. During our cruise I managed to buy a Valencian flag for my collection of flags ...
... as well as two different-sized models to the Torres de Serrans in Valencia ...
I also bought a copy of SANTORINI, the well-known boardgame.
It contains a number of very useful buildings that can be stacked to form taller structures ...
For Christmas, Sue bought me a new bridge camera (a Canon PowerShot SX540 HS) ...
... and my old friend Tony Hawkins came up trumps with the fifth of a copy of Mark Urban's THE MAN WHO BROKE NAPOLEON'S CODES.
Finally, just before we went on our recent cruise, Tim Gow passed on to me a big box containing a large number of painted Napoleonic wargame figures that come from the collection of a recently deceased wargamer. His family wanted them to be passed on to someone who would use them, and I am looking forward to adding them to my own collection.

I'm not quite sure how I will use them, but I'm sure that there must be a wargaming use for them. The 15mm-scale Essex Miniatures figure has been included to give some indication of the size of the model.

The set contains 22 Level 1 blocks, ...

The Urban book is a very good read!
ReplyDeleteAs for the "blocks terrain"
Impressed is an understatement!
Geordie an Exiled FoG,
DeleteI am devouring Mark Urban's book at some speed. It is very, very interesting.
I'd seen the SANTORINI game mentioned online, and when I saw the blocks, I decided that they would work well with my 15mm-scale figures. Expect to see them on my tabletop battlefield in the future,
All the best,
Bob
Hi Bob,
ReplyDeleteThe Canon Camera looks very impressive - a very nice present...Canon is a great Brand. Those 'Santorini' modular building pieces look to be very useful for you -particularly for your 15mm and Hex-Grid games. I can see you have had a very nice Christmas there Bob. Regards. KEV.
Kev Robertson (Kev),
DeleteI've had Canon cameras before, and they've all been excellent.
The joy of the buildings that come with the SANTORINI game is their suitability for use in wargames set in the Mediterranean and Middle East areas, and even parts of Asia.
All the best,
Bob
Its amazing how many well known items are totally unknown to me. The building blocks do look very useful for 15mm Colonial games.
ReplyDeleteRoss Mac,
DeleteOne of the joys of the Internet is finding out about things that you didn't know about before.
I have several ideas about games that will probably feature the new SANTORINI buildings. Their size and flexibility make them ideal for use in 15mm-scale Colonial wargames.
All the best,
Bob
Nice Valencian flag Bob, that has become so familiar to me! I enjoyed your recent cruise report and photos, again I recognised a lot of your Valencia photos, looks like you caught some wet weather? Did you see any of the stunning modern architecture there too? It's certainly a magnificent city to visit.
ReplyDelete'Lee,
DeleteCheers! I had no idea what Valencia would be like, and I was very impressed by what I saw.
On our way back to the coach pick-up point, we passed a poster advertising the exhibition of miniature figures that is on display in Valencia. My wife has promised that we will visit it the next time we go to Valencia.
The weather wasn't wonderful ... but it was better than the weather in the UK! As to seeing any of the modern architecture ... well we spent our time in the older part of the city so that will have to wait until we return in the near future.
All the best,
Bob
Looks like Father Christmas/Santa was good to you.
ReplyDeleteFitz-Badger,
DeleteI did very well indeed!
All the best,
Bob
