My next short-term goals

Having managed to achieve the first short-term goals that I set myself, I’ve decided to set myself another couple, and these are:

  • Organise some more of the figures and equipment in my Eastern Front/Great Patriotic War collection into ‘formations in boxes’
  • Complete the text of THE PORTABLE SEVENTEENTH CENTURY WARGAME book

I haven’t set a timescale to achieve these aims, but I’d like to see if I can achieve them in about three weeks.

    1. Scott,

Cheers! I hope that you’ll buy the next one ... and the others that I hope to write.

      All the best,

      Bob

  2. Oh go on then. 5!

You certainly knocked your last short-term goals out of the park. Here's to the next one. I'm pondering a similar challenge for myself after a fallow period on the creative front.

    1. Nundanket,

      Five it is then!

I certainly found setting myself these short-term goals helped to make me feel as if I had achieved something, rather than wandered aimlessly about ... so I'd certainly suggest giving it a try. It helps to concentrate the mind wonderfully.

      All the best,

      Bob

  3. Hi BOB,
It is a good idea that you've had setting short-term goals for yourself. I'd like to paint up some 15mm Laserburn Sci-Fi figures which is my goal- though there isn't anything to do as I'm waiting on delivery from Ireland via Airmail. Stay well there in London. Regards. KEV.

    1. Kev Robertson (Kev),

Knowing my propensity to wander off piste, setting myself short-term goals is good self-discipline.

I look forward to seeing your painted Laserburn figures ... once they have been delivered.

      All the best,

      Bob

    2. I just took a look at your buildings Kev, very nice! Your marines look a little Judge Dredd-y but that's fine. You've done a beautiful job on them as well.
      I've go to ask, Bob...
Aside from any homebrew rules written by gamers, will there ever be official sci-fi rules for tPWG? I imagine at this scale it's all a little too abstract and comes down to something like OGRE by Steve Jackson Games. You know, "My single tank lobbing nuclear artillery obliterates that town 12 squares away".
But I'm also thinking there must be some way to make plausible sci-fi or "near future" games. I suspect most of it comes down to "the field of battle gets bigger, the units spread out more and if you're seen, you're dead."
I've got a sprue of old GW epic scale Space Marines and I'd love for them to see a battle played out on tPWG but I'm having trouble seeing how to make the rules fit the theme.

    3. Mr. Pavone,

That is an interesting question. I currently have no plans for a sci-fi version of the rules, but something set in the near future has possibilities, and if a skirmish version was developed - where each figure represents an individual - you might find a use for your Space Marines.

      All the best,

      Bob
