Up and running ...

After what has seemed like a long time (it’s actually only been four days), I’ve finally got my new PC set up, the programs I use installed, and all the files transferred from the older PC to the new one.

I decided not to rush the process of setting up my new PC ... and I encountered very few problems along the way. I now have a PC that works much, much faster than the previous one, and a screen that will make desktop publishing even easier.

Now that the PC is up and running, I have one or two projects that I hope will come to fruition later this year ... but I’ll write more about that over the coming months.

  1. Congratulations on a successful completion of what is always either a challenge or a chore, except when its both. May it serve you well.

    1. Ross Mac,

Cheers! It was easier than I expected, but it took longer. The old PC is currently being reset to its original factory settings prior to being disposed of.

      All the best,

      Bob

  2. Well played! In related news I’ve had the rather easier job installing a new office printer - hopefully it’ll cost less to run than it’s predecessor.

    1. Tim Gow,

Cheers! My two printers (an inkjet and a laser) connected automatically to my new PC, and took no time at all to set up!

I’m considering replacing the inkjet printer with a colour laser printer when the inkjet goes wrong. Prices have dropped over the past few years, and are about the same as I paid for my inkjet printer a few years ago.

      All the best,

      Bob

    3. Tim Gow,

My current laser printer cartridges cost about £55.00 and lasts about 5,000 page prints, which works out at about 1.1p per page.

      All the best,

      Bob

  3. Well done Bob. My new laptop is staring at me balefully, but I can't face setting it up quite yet. I'm not looking forward to wrestling with the wireless printer setup.

    1. Martin Rapier,

Luckily both my new PC and my inkjet printer were both made by HP, and all I had to do was to agree that they should link through the same wireless network. The laser printer just require its cable to be plugged into the relevant USB port, and it was automatically linked.

Good luck with setting up your new laptop,

      Bob

  4. Respect

I visibly went pale when my son asked me to help him build a Gaming PC from scratch ...

    Gonna be fun!

    1. Geordie an Exile FoG,

I can remember when fathers were expected to show sons how to fix punctured bicycle tyres; nowadays they are expected to be able to build computers from scratch!

Good luck; you are going to need it!

      All the best,

      Bob
