The Portable Wargame Compendium has been published!

Amazon was very fast off the mark when I approved THE PORTABLE WARGAME COMPENDIUM for publication, and the printed paperback edition is now available to buy online. Furthermore, the Kindle edition is available for pre-order for publication on 28th April.

The hardback edition will be available to purchase once they have been printed in Europe and shipped to various Amazon warehouses.

I am still trying to find a way to make a PDF edition available. One avenue that I am exploring is distributing it myself. If I do, I will ask buyers to contact me on a dedicated email address, and then bill them using a PayPal invoice. Once that is paid, I will email a copy of the PDF to the purchaser.

  1. Good news Bob - and I will be very happy to try out the pdf ordering process! Will the price be the same as the Kindle?

    Kind regards

I’ll write a blog post one I’ve sorted out a way to distribute the PDF edition. The price will be the same as the Kindle.

Cheers! Working on the Compendium helped me to cope, although there were times when I found it difficult to concentrate.

    2. Hi Bob, I hope this finds you well (despite your recent tribulations). I've just ordered my copy and was surprised to see that the hard copy was out before the kindle! I don't doubt that it will be as entertaining and informative as your other PW publications.
      All the best,

    3. Tonyjones (Tony),

Thanks for asking about how I’m doing … and the answer is that I’m coping.

Amazon led me to believe that the printed books wouldn’t become ‘live’ until the middle of this week, and I timed the launch of the Kindle edition accordingly.

I hope that you enjoy the Compendium when you read it.

      All the best,

      Bob

  3. Great! Tempted by the kindle but a pdf is much easier to print chapters from, so i think I will wait in hope :-)

    1. Fr. Dr. John N D’Alton,

I hope to get the distribution of the PDF sorted out over the next couple of days, so the chances are that you won’t have to wait too long.

  4. PS You could always add the users name as a watermark on the pdf then if anyone does scummbaggery and passes it around you will know who! :-)

I’ve done that in the past, and it has proven to be a very effective deterrent.

  6. According to Amazon UK the hardback is "in stock" and will arrive on Friday if I order within the next 17 hours, while I only have to wait until Wednesday for the paperback. Decisions, decisions: paperback + Kindle or hardback? What do I spend my £20 on? Maybe hardback + Kindle is best?

    1. Mike Hall,

That is great news … especially as I could not order an author’s copy when I tried!

Ihopethat you enjoy reading the Compendium when it arrives.

  7. Congratulations on the release of the compendium! I look forward to reading it come payday.
Regards PDFs, I'd recommend using a 3rd party service for this such as the websites www.wargamevault.com or www.itch.io - otherwise I think you'll be liable for VAT on digital sales in all countries that it's bought in. However if you use a 3rd party, then they take care of the VAT on your behalf.

Thanks for the suggestions. You are the second person to suggest using the Wargame Vault, and I intend to investigate this later today.

  12. Just ordered my own paperback copy and I'll definitely get a PDF as soon as it's available. Like Mr. D'Alton said, it's nice to be able to print individual pages to make quick reference charts from a PDF.

  14. I'd happily buy a PDF. While I'm happy with Kindle, one thing it struggles with is printability. I would agree on using Wargames Vault, have bought plenty of games both war and RPG thru them.

I'm still waiting for Wargames Vault to get back to me, but I have high hopes that they will act as a distributor for this PDF as well as some of my other books that are not currently available in that format.
