Last Saturday, I took part in the online Wargame Developments Autumn Virtual Gathering.
The sessions were:
- The history of French wargaming from 1871 to 2026
- Foreign volunteers fighting for the Papal States in the 1860s
- Seventy years of Spanish professional wargaming
- A forum on wargaming in space
- Cartoons and War
- The myth that has developed around the Western Approaches Tactical Unit (WATU)
- Tony Bath and the invention of Dungeons & Dragons
- From Bench to Tabletop - A panel discussion on the latest wargaming research discoveries and their potential applications in our game designs
- The Last Ever Sing Along
This was the best of these day-long events to date … and I came away with lots of new knowledge and ideas.
How ChatGPT imagined the Wargame Developments Autumn Virtual Gathering would look. It is not at all accurate! No berets were worn or pipes smoked ... but there were a few beards!

There was at least one pipe smoker there, and whilst there were no signs of berets one presenter had a superb French bicorn.
ReplyDeleteJohn Armatys,
DeleteI saw a bicorne being worn by Antoine B and a tricorne on Jim R’s head … but I missed the sing-song, which is when hats usually appear in large numbers!
All the best,
Bob
An interesting agenda Bob. I'm a bit disappointed at the lack of berets - I guess ties and Sports jackets were universally worn?
ReplyDeleteMaudlin Jack Tar,
DeleteI have two berets but wore neither of them. One is a black one I bought in the Basque area and the other in my much ‘tommed’ maroon beret … which I wear in remembrance of my father.
All the best,
Bob
Bob, you should be very pleased that a book of Portable Wargames is in the foreground!
ReplyDeleteRecognition by AI at last.
best wishes,
Arthur

DeleteAmazingly, I didn’t ask ChatGPT to include PW in the image!
All the best,
