Other people's Portable Wargame battle reports

It is over a month since I did a review of other people's Portable Wargame battle reports ... and there have been some great ones to look at!

Barry Carter's battle reports never ceases to inspire me ...

... and Martin Rapier continues to show just how versatile the rules can be by using them to fight a wargame on a computer-generated gridded battlefield, an event in which another regular user of the rules - Martin Smith - also participated.

In addition, Martin Smith has been showing how the rules can be used with very small-scale figures on his converted chessboard.

Steven Briddon's skill as a painter comes to the fore in his hex gridded desert battle, for which he used the scenario for the Battle of Hook's Farm, ...

... although I think that his real love still lies with his 54mm figures.

My regular online opponent, Gary Sheffield, has been playing around with a Medieval version of the rules that he is writing, and has been play-testing them in a number of online battles with Spencer Jones.

Gary has promised to publish his rules online once he is happy that they have had all the kinks ironed out of them.

Please note that the photographs featured above are © Barry Carter, Martin Rapier, Martin Smith, Steve Briddon, and Gary Sheffield.

They certainly were all featured on the PW Facebook page.

    1. Martin Rapier,

Yes ... and no. The images were ones I took from Martin Smith’s posting on Facebook about the Sheffield game. This appeared on 13th August, which is when I copied the images. Your battle report came out on your blog more recently, so I credited the images to him rather than you.

I hope that explains what happened. I will, however, amend what I have written on my blog to clarify the situation.

      All the best,

      Bob

    1. Neil Patterson (Neil),

As I explained to Martin Rapier, the images appeared in a Facebook posting by Martin Smith. That’s where I copied them from, hence the credit for the images going to Martin Smith rather than Martin Rapier.

      All the best,

      Bob

  5. I am truly humbled by what you say about my games write- ups. We are at the moment involved in the (involved) process of moving houses and your kind comments stiffen my resolve to at least plan fighting a battle or two as relief from the wretched task of packing!

    1. Barry Carter,

I am always amazed at how people have taken my ideas and rules, and turned them into something even better. That’s why I like to mention battle reports like yours on my blog.

Good luck with the move. It’s something I suspect I’ll have to contemplate in the near future.

      All the best,

      Bob

    2. The move has made me realise just how many armies I have accumulated over time, many duplicated in different scales. Some are going to have to go!

    3. Barry Carter,

I suspect that it is something we are all guilt off. I’m currently looking at my collections and have already disposed of a couple ... but still need to get rid of a few more that I’m never likely to use again.

      All the best,

      Bob
