For reasons that will become clear in the near future, as of yesterday I handed over the final bits of COW (Conference of Wargamers) administration to someone else.
Knuston Hall, the annual venue of the Conference of Wargamers.
I will not be going to COW this year (it will only be the second I have missed since 1980!), and in the final run up to the conference, any remaining administrative tasks that still need to be done should be in the hands of someone who will be there.
The fact that I am not going to COW means that other than for last year, when COW2020 was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this will be the first time in many years that I have not been running a session at the conference. Part of me is disappointed in that fact, and part of me is rather grateful for the break. That said, I am planning to go to COW2022 ... assuming that the world has returned to something approaching normal by then.

Bob,
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that you won't be going to COW2021- hope you can enjoy things later for COW2022. Here in Sydney (and Greater Sydney) we're in complete Lockdown due to the recent outbreak of the Covid-Delta Virus...so, no visitors to our home at all- masks to be worn indoors- allowed out for appointments, grocery shopping...and no travel out of our areas. So, it is 2019 all over again- we're pretty use to it and the restrictions are no problem...hopefully things will return to normal in two weeks time- though I doubt it. In the mean time just keeping occupied doing this and that for my Model Railway. Stay well there in London. Regards. KEV.
Kev Robertson (Kev),
DeleteI will miss not going to COW this year, but it coincides with Sue’s birthday celebrations … so the decision not to go was a no-brainer as far as I was concerned.
It sounds as if things are going to get worse in Australia before they can get better. The infection rate in the UK is rising, but the death rate isn’t, and is about 1% of what it was when the infection rate was as high last year. This is being put down to the extensive vaccination programme and that the majority of the infections are occurring in unvaccinated groups.
Keep safe and keep well,
Bob
Hope all is well Bob, I know how much you enjoyed organising and attending COW.
ReplyDeleteLee.
‘Lee,
DeleteCOW coincides with my wife’s birthday celebrations, so going to COW was always going to be a non-starter.
All the best,
Bob
We'll miss you, Bob. See you in 2022. I've only ever missed 2 COWs, so I'm level with you now.
ReplyDeleteTrebian,
DeleteCheers! I found that the COW after the one I missed was one of the best I’d ever attended, and I hope that COW2022 will be as equally memorable.
Enjoy yourself,
Bob
Bob - I hope that everything is okay with you and yours?
ReplyDeleteIan Dury,
DeleteNothing untoward, just a clash of dates with my wife’s birthday celebrations … and this year’s is a particularly significant birthday.
All the best,
Bob
Glad to hear that and excellent choice of option! (I know what would happen to me if I said I was wargaming on my wife's birthday......!)
DeleteIan Drury,
DeleteWe have been together - although not married for all that time - for fifty years. Missing her birthday was never an option!
All the best,
Bob
Missed you Bob but you and Sue had a fantastic time, especially since the Royal Navy seemed to give you an escort there and back ;) looking forward to catch up with you at the next VCoW
ReplyDeleteGeordie an Exile FoG,
DeleteI really missed not being at COW, but our cruise more than made up for that ... and especially because of our naval escort!
I hope we get a chance to chat at VCOW.
All the best,
Bob
Agreed mate .. I hope to get the Portable Wargame out on the table before then too .. thinking Horse and Musket or ACW ;)
DeleteGeordie an Exile FoG,
DeleteAs soon as my FUNNY LITTLE WARS/PORTABLE WARGAME project is finished, I hope to fight a PW campaign. However, Balkan Wars and PACW books are very tempting writing projects that I’d like to work on between now and Christmas, so who knows what the future holds!
All the best,
Bob
