Look back in wonder

I have been reorganising the books in my toy/wargame room and decided to put all the books I have written and published as well as the wargame glossy magazines that I have contributed to on the same shelf … and this is the result:

Looking at them, I am amazed and just how many books etc., there are.

(I have not included the articles I have written for THE NUGGET and several books that I have contributed to.)

  1. BOB,
I had no idea that you had written so many books- wow! Do you have any future plans to write another book? If so what will be the subject? All the best. KEV.

    1. Kev Robertson (Kev),

There is also a pile of books to which I have contributed a chapter or two that are not as yet included on the shelf.

I actually had the notes and text of three books I was working on saved on the hard drive that went wrong. I hope to be able to restart work on them when I can.

      All the best,

      Bob

  3. An impressive array of work, especially as it's a sideline part of your career. I have a lot of these in my own collection and your work has been seen on my gaming table a lot over the years. Always looking forward to the next gem you share.

    1. WEK 3,

Cheers! I never set out to be a writer, but it sort of happened, partly as a result of blogging and partly as a result of having been an educationalist for most of my working life.

Thanks for your ongoing support … and my next book may well be about an Eastern Front/Great Patriotic War version of the Portable Wargame.

      All the best,

      Bob

  4. A very palpable visualization of your significant contribution to the hobby. Perhaps you might put a USB drive in the corner to represent the body of digital work you've contributed as well (one wonders if that were all in print how it would expand the shelf).

    1. Ed M,

I must admit at I was surprised when I saw just how many books etc., i had written … and there are still some to be added!

Funnily enough, I have been saving the text of my books, my blogs, and my articles onto a USB memory stick as part of what may turn out to be a ‘virtual Bob Cordery’ project.

      All the best,

      Bob

To be truthful, I’m very pleased with just how much I have written over the years … and hope to add more in the future.

  6. Bob -
Lined up like that they form a considerable oeuvre. I have most of what is shown there, but I think I see at least one title I intended to get and haven't. I might be forced to remedy that!
At any rate, methinks you are due congratulations for the success of your authorship.

Meanwhile I think I have built my last balsa warship. For a while, anyhow...
    Cheers,

Cheers! I am impressed to know that you have an almost complete set of my wargaming books.

Your last balsa warship? I look forward to seeing a fleet review once it is completed.

      All the best,

  7. Well, Bob, I'd say that I know you've given me a fair bit of inspiration. I do appreciate your creativity and your contributions to this silly little hobby we share.

Now, I've some Not Quite Napoleonics to finish so I can crack on with my Portable Napoleonic Wargame.

If I have managed to inspire people like you then I feel very satisfied … and more than a little humbled.

Not Quite Napoleonic sounds like it’s a very interesting project and I hope that you finish it soon.

      All the best,

It’s not a bad output for the time it took. Incidentally, they are not all wargaming books and include a novel and four books about Masonic history.

      All the best,

  11. Quite an achievement - something to be proud of. I looked at the space on my bookshelf where the books I've written are then realised... I haven't written any books :(

You've performed a very different and valuable service to the hobby over the years. All I did was write a few books ... and with the advent of ChatGPT, that's going to be even easier in future!

      All the best,

      Bob
