I’ve been feeling a bit under the weather of late … but it isn’t COVID … and it shouldn’t stop me wargaming later this week!

I woke up on Friday feeling rather unwell. The symptoms were joint pain, a runny nose, a mild headache, some stomach pain, mild diarrhoea, and general fatigue, none of which were bad enough to make me stay in bed but bad enough to prevent me from doing anything that required much concentration.

As I was unsure if these symptoms were caused by the Erleada I am taking as part of my prostate cancer treatment or if I had COVID-19 again, I look a lateral flow test on Saturday … which was negative. I took a further test on Sunday … which also proved to be negative.

In the end I came to the conclusion that I was probably suffering from a cold or 'flu bug, which had in some way enhanced the mild side effects I was already suffering as a result of taking the Erleada. This is just as well, as I hope to be taking part in a couple of online wargames later this week.

Cheers! Its one of those virus/bugs that seems to drain all the mental as well as physical energy from your body. I am hoping that it will go as quickly as it came so that I can enjoy the wargames that I have planned for this week.

      All the best,

      Bob

Cheers! The sooner I’m feeling well again, the better!

I know that some people seem to enjoy being ill, but I don’t. In fact, I find it very frustrating.

      All the best,

      Bob

  3. There are still plenty of cold and flu bugs around but we are all focused on Covid. I hope you get better as quickly as you became unwell. Regards.

    1. Tony Adams,

You are quite right. COVID has rather deflected people’s awareness that the common cold and flu are still around and still infecting them.

I do hope that I get better as quickly as I became ill. I really don’t like feeling unwell, especially as it imparts my enjoyment of my wargaming.

      All the best,

      Bob

  4. Bob -
One of those summer colds, one imagines. Tbhings like that are the worse for one's defence systems already being knocked about by this or that ailment, not to mention stress, worry and fatigue. All things considered I wonder how you manage to stay cheerful in spite of it all.

    Unbreakable.
    Cheers,

This is a real stinker of a virus … but I’m determined not to let it beat me!

I might not be firing on all cylinders today … but at least my motor is still turning over. It is helped by the fact that I have had to write the opening orders for the ‘Herring War of 1909’, a Funny Little Wars campaign that Tim Gow has organised and that is being fought out later this week.

      All the best,

      Bob

    1. Maudlin Jack Tar,

I hope so! I’ve spent some time this afternoon writing the orders for the Danish forces involved in the ‘Herring War of 1909’. Tim Gow has organised this Funny Little Wars campaign, and it is being fought out later this week. I’m the commander of the Danish forces involved, and Paul Wright - who has recently republished FUNNY LITTLE WARS - is the opposing Norwegian commander.

      All the best,

      Bob

I’ll certainly try to follow your advice, although my wife has plans for me to clean some windows tomorrow.

The prospect of taking part in some wargames is certainly helping me to keep going, especially as the ones on Wednesday will help to progress my Napoleonic campaign.

      All the best,

      Bob

It might not be COVID, but it is a real stinker of a cold. I’m hoping that it won’t last much longer, but you never know with colds.

      All the best,

You are quite right about us forgetting how bad ‘ordinary’ colds and flu can be, and the anti-COVID measures have left a lot of us more vulnerable to them.

      All the best,

It appears that quite a few people have come down with a cold. It’s almost as if the thing came about as a result of our recent heatwave and lack of rain. With luck, I’ll be better by the weekend.

      All the best,

      Bob

  11. Its easy to forget that new diseases add to the existing sources of misery rather replacing them. I hope you beat this new attack quickly.

    1. Ross Mac,

I understand that since COVID, the number of people who have caught colds and/or flu has diminished … and with it the level of community immunity. My immune system has been diminished somewhat by the drugs I am on (it’s one of the side effects) so I was not surprised when I caught this virus.

With luck, I am going to recover by the weekend.

      All the best,

      Bob

  12. Was just reading yesterday about a surge in bugs and viruses as this is the first Summer of full contact since 2019. Take care of yourself

    1. Nundanket,

Thanks for your best wishes. They are much appreciated.

I have seen the same story about a surge in virus infections being due to the increasing number of contacts people are experiencing … and the fact that fewer people had flu and colds in 2020 and 2021 than usual.

Luckily, I seem to be feeling a bit better this afternoon.

      All the best,

      Bob
