First Bull Run: Today’s Military History Plus podcast

Later this morning Professor Gary Sheffield and Dr Spencer Jones will be discussing the First Battle of Bull Run in Episode 7 of the Military History Plus podcast.

Last week’s podcast looked at the late Dr Paddy Griffith’s book RALLY ONCE AGAIN, ...

... which was published in 1986 and revised and republished as BATTLE TACTICS OF THE CIVIL WAR in 1989, ...

... so today’s podcast will hopefully be a nice follow up to that podcast.

  1. Thanks for flagging this podcast Bob. I listened to the introduction episode and have listened to 2/3 to the one on motivation and will return to it tomorrow. Very interesting. Half expected to hear mention of Ilya Berkovich's "Motivation in War: The Experience of Common Soldiers in Old Regime Europe", but I guess they're mostly historians of the 20th C. Duffy got a mention though, so I'm happy!

    1. Nundanket,

So far I've found these podcasts to be the best of the military history ones I've listened to, and I'm please to read that you have enjoyed listening to them. I understand that they have already recorded several more but have no idea what they will cover or whether they will introduce guest contributors.

      All the best,

      Bob

  2. Thanks for the reminder, Bob! You're a good talker, have you thought of doing your own podcast? Or at least, you might be a guest on this one.. you have done some 'serious' stuff with academic/government gaming, haven't you?

    1. David in Suffolk,

I’ve thought about both creating a podcast and/or a YouTube channel. I actually have several videos uploaded to the latter (a search for Robert Cordery should take you to them) and I have sufficient material for at least one video about the PW.

I have done some serious wargaming … but I’m not sure how much of it I can talk or write about.

      All the best,

      Bob
