A Victor Meldrew moment

Yesterday I had what I can best describe as a Victor Meldrew moment.

I was reading the Naval Wargaming Facebook page when I saw that someone had bought my GRIDDED NAVAL WARGAMES book from Walmart Online! Now, this was news to me, so I investigated further … and discovered the Walmart Online actually has ALL my books on sale!

This is amazing! I cannot get my books stocked by any of the UK High Street booksellers but an American multinational retail corporation will sell them online.

As Victor Meldrew would have said, 'I don't believe it!'

Are you still getting royalties from these sales? Just asking...

    1. Archduke Piccolo (Ion),

I have been trying to find out from where Walmart are sourcing their stock of books, but as they are only stocking the ones I published using Lulu.com and not Amazon's KDP, it must be Lulu.com. I'm trying to get some up-to-date sales figures from Lulu.com, and this should confirm this ... or not!

      All the best,

      Bob

  2. Oh yes, all of your books are readily available here, on Amazon, but I wasn't aware Wal-Mart had them as well. Hope you're getting royalties.

    1. Mark Cordone,

As far as I can see, Walmart are getting their stock from Lulu.com, who will add any sales to the monthly account at the end of the month.

      All the best,

      Bob

  3. Yeah, my first thought was I hope you are still getting your fair share from the sales. Good luck!

    1. Fits-Badger,

My sales via Lulu.com had pretty well dried up recently so if they are supplying Walmart I should notice when I see the end of month sales figures.

      All the best,

      Bob

  4. Since everyone has expressed the exact same concern I was going to express, I'll instead say "Congratulations, Bob. You've made it to one of the USA's biggest retailers."
    Well played!

    1. Mr. Pavone,

Cheers! It’s nice to be sold by such a large retailer … but I doubt if I’m going to end up a millionaire as a result!

      All the best,

      Bob

  5. Interesting .. are Walmart making "subject matter expert" choices .. or anything and everything? As the latter would be "too risky" (anything published on Lulu) .. congratulates you have Walmart approval!

    1. Geordie an Exile FoG,

I suspect that Lulu.com is selling my books to Walmart at rock-bottom prices as the revenue I am getting per book is measured in single numbers of pennies. What I am hoping is that people will buy the books from Walmart, be interested enough to buy more, and then to buy other books from Amazon.

Interestingly, Walmart will stock my books but Waterstones won't! I know, because I asked!

      All the best,

      Bob
