Anyscale Models

Although I originally intended to scratch build all the buildings etc., on my model railway layout, one of the YouTube model railway channels that I follow (Budget Model Railways*) mentioned a supplier of reasonably-priced, resin-cast items that they used. As a result, I visited Anyscale Models

… and bought a whole load of stuff that I will be able to use on my layout and for wargaming.

My order arrived on Wednesday and included the following items:

Industrial building or tool shed (£5.50)

Waiting rooms (£5.50 each)

Trackside worker's hut (£6.00)

Tin shed (£7.00)

Garden sheds (2 for £6.00)

Canal footbridge (£8.99)

Open air coastal concrete emplacements (£4.00 each)

5.5-inch/6-inch naval guns (£3.00 each)

Battery observation post for the gun emplacements (£5.00)

Three WW2 British pillboxes (£10.00)

Victorian steam launch (£10.00)

Dumb barges (£7.00 each)

31.5' Scottish Motor Fishing Vessels (£7.50 each)

32' Scottish Motor Fishing Vessel (£7.50)

They generously included a couple of free 'seconds' that were made from resin that they had over suring the manufacturing process.

I have included a ruler in the above images to give some idea as to the size of each item.

I was very impressed with the quality of the items I bought, the price I was charged, and the speed with which my order was completed and posted to me. I will certainly be buying from Anyscale Models again in the future.

* Budget Model Railways also produce a small range of 3D printed model railway products.

  1. Got a load of their stuff last year - weirdly, I'm finishing off some of their fishing boats at the moment. I like them.

    1. Rob Young,

I’d never heard of them before, but I’m very impressed by the stuff I have bought from them.

      All the best,

  2. BOB,
A very interesting collection and a great variety of resin models - it will also be interesting which ones you will employ on your model railway. Best Wishes. KEV.

    1. Kev Robertson (Kev),

I can see them being useful both on my model railway and my wargame table. For example, the waiting rooms would nicely double up as small houses.

      All the best,

      Bob

    1. Archduke Piccolo,

I probably bought far too much … but I’ll no doubt make use of them.

      All the best,

  4. Those are some nice little models, Bob.
3D printers are surprisingly cheap and you don't need to be a designer to use them. I have found many models available online, ranging in price from free to just a few dollars for the .STL files. All you do is feed them to your printer how then tell it how many you want and how big to make them.
I don't blame you though if you continue letting a business do all the work for you. It can be frustrating to learn at first. And even with experience, things go wrong. I tried printing an ocarina the other day. It was going to take over an hour to do so I went for a walk in a nearby park. When I got home I found the bottom half printed perfectly but the top was a mass of spaghetti! I think the filament didn't feed correctly and so the printer jammed up.

    1. Mr. Pavone,

I'd love to be able to buy and house a 3D printer, and if there is sufficient room in our new home, I intend to buy one. I understand that there are sometimes problems with them, but I know several people who are real experts in 3D printing and I'm sure that they could give me some tips on what to do and what not to do.

      All the best,

      Bob

  6. Seems like a great resource. A shame from my viewpoint that they don't seem to cater for 10mm (N gauge in railway parlance).

    1. Tim Stanton,

I think that the company is run by enthusiasts, and I’m sure that if you contacted them, they might be willing to produce some stuff in your favourite scale.

      All the best,

      Bob
