Additions to my 009/H09 model railway locomotives and rolling stock

Kev Robertson (one of my very regular blog readers) very kindly sold me a brand-new 009 locomotive and some rolling stock to add to my collection.

The locomotive is a PECO 0-4-0 tender locomotive named Princess

… and the rolling stock are a PECO bogie coach ...

.. and a PECO Guard's Van.

The locomotive is an excellent runner, but the bogie coach is a bit too long for the sharp curves on my current layout and it tends to derail on them if I am not careful. However, I have tried it on the bigger radius curves that I own, and it has no problems on them.

  1. BOB,
I'm well pleased you like the OO9 items and that your thinking of a larger OO9 layout. Great photos there- it is good that you now have a red engine with tender. Best Wishes. KEV.

    1. Kev Robertson (Kev),

Thanks very much for sending them to me. I have done a short video of the locomotive and guards van (plus two Lilliput passenger coaches) on my YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@Wargaming_Miscellany). As you will see, the locomotive is a great little runner and is by far and away the best one in my collection.

      All the best,

      Bob

    1. Mike,

PECO has several Ffestiniog locomotives in their 009 range. They have been produced in cooperation with Kato, the Japanese model railway manufacturers.

      All the best,

      Bob

I was so impressed that I have hinted to my wife that Princess's companion - Prince - might make a nice Christmas present for me!

      All the best,

  5. I am also into model railways, and have a soft spot for narrow gauge ones. I'm modelling in Sm45 (1:18) and 009/ H0e.
Last year I constructed a small 'Pizza-layout' in H0e for Christmas:

Have you used the Kato CV1 track-set for your layout?
I really like your rail connected battery!

    1. Roger,

I look forward to visiting your blog and reading about your model railways.

I did use the Kato CV-1 set plus a set of points and a few other pieces of track for my layout. It was very easy to use and I did lots of playing about with what went where before I finalised the track plan.

      All the best,

      Bob

    2. Your layout looks really good! I'm interesting to trying out the Kato track as well, and think the CV-1 would be a good start. Now I see Kato is about to offer 009/H0e track with larger sleeper further apart. Next week I'm going ti Faszination Modellbau in Friedrichshafen, so I'll look out for Kator tracks there.

    3. Roger,

I used to have a couple of sets of PECO N-gauge track that I tried using, but I found it rather fiddly and difficult to use if I wanted to make changes to my layout … but the Kato Unitrack was so quick and easy to use that I sold my PECO track and bought Kato instead.

I’d not heard about Kato producing 009/H09 track! I’ll certainly look out for it although I am quite happy. using their current N-gauge Unitrack.

      All the best,

      Bob

    1. Mark, Man of TIN,

It’s by far and away the best 009/H09 locomotive in my collection … and I’m giving serious thought to buying another from PECO.

I’m very pleased with my first model railway layout … and I’m already planning my next.

      All the best,

      Bob
