Vive l'Empereur! Some additional Infantry for my Napoleonic French Army

Amongst the odds and ends of Del Prado pre-painted 25/28mm Napoleonic French figures that I had in storage, I also had a number that were depicted loading their muskets. As I had already decided to use the equivalent British and Prussian figures as Militia/Garrison troops, I thought that I could use these figures to form Militia/Garrison troops for my French Army.

So far I have completed two units of these figures ...

... and I have enough figures that remain to be renovated, varnished, and based to form two more such units in due course.

  1. I'm impressed by the steady growth of your Napoleonic armies. I don't know if you are aware of the new project by the Perry Twins. Their own "portable wargame"! A 'complete game in a box' to be launched at Salute. The size is 8mm. . There will be 160 infantry, 24 cavalry, 4 guns and crew plus 6 brigadiers in coloured plastic, the look is generic "Napoleonic". These are divided into red and blue 'armies', together with terrain. Be interesting to see what this looks like when eventually released.

    1. OMG! I don't know if this is a plus or a minus for the hobby. It looks like we are coming full circel to where we played by rolling marbles at Airfix figures. The hobby need people who paint/MAKE terrain/ write scenarios, etc. This caters to the "gamer" who just wants to set up a 3D boardgame and play with no consideration as to the art or the history ensconced in the hobby.

    2. Dick Bryant,

I agree ... but with luck it might encourage some new blood into the hobby and rejuvenate some of the more established Wargamers to try something new.

      All the best,
      Bob

    3. David Bradley,

The end of my Napoleonic project is in sight ... although I suspect it will never quite be finished.

I had heard rumours about this Perry brothers project, but nothing more. If I go to SALUTE this year I will certainly try to see what it looks like.

      All the best,

      Bob

  2. If you can navigate to the Perry's Facebook page they have some images of the figures there. It will be interesting to learn more about this project - cost etc. Perhaps It could serve as a useful intro to the hobby

    1. David Bradley,

I may well have a look when the opportunity arises. As you write, it may we'll be a great way to introduce new people to the hobby.

      All the best,

    1. David Bradley,

Very interesting! It seems that they are following a trend towards the compact and portable wargame that uses a gridded tabletop.

      All the best,

      Bob
