The flags of Hyboria

Stefan, who is one of my regular blog readers, has made me aware of an interesting blog post that appeared on Chad Thorson's Maximum Rock and Role Play blog back in 2012.

This posting featured illustrations of flags designed by Mike Stelzer for the various countries of Hyboria and is probably a resource that a lot of Hyboria fans will find interesting. I would reproduce them here, but I am unsure of the copyright situation, so I have chosen not to.

Hyboria: An even better map from Tony Bath

I was reminded by one of my regular blog readers that many years ago Tony Bath wrote an article about Hyboria for BATTLE magazine ... and a long search of my selection of magazine clippings revealed a copy of said map. (I have since also been reminded that a copy of the same may is included in a chapter of Henry Hyde's excellent WARGAMING CAMPAIGNS). The map is much clearer than any of the other black and white versions that I have used so far on my blog ... and here it is:

Please click on the image to see an enlarged version of the map.

I am unsure who owns the copyright of this map (I assume that it is Tony Bath's estate or the Society of Ancients to whom he passed on the copyright for much of his writings) and I hope that they will not be offended by me sharing it on my blog with Hyboria fans.

Hyboria: A newer, colour version of Tony Bath's original map

Thanks to a link provided by Phil Dutré, I was able to find a slightly different, coloured version of Tony Bath's original Hyboria map:

When compared to the one I included in yesterday's blog post, it includes some additional information and several minor changes to place names, national boundaries, and physical features.

By clicking on the maps shown above, blog readers can see enlarged (and somewhat clearer) views of them.

Hyboria: Some maps for the forthcoming Compendium

I have been working on several maps of Hyboria to go with an article by Mark Cordone. He has modified the Ancient rules from DEVELOPING THE PORTABLE WARGAME and the first PORTABLE WARGAME COMPENDIUM to make them suitable for fighting battles set in the Hyboria Age.

The first map is a slightly tided-up copy of the late Tony Bath’s original Hyboria map …

… and the second is a version of the map based on a number of other more recent maps of Hyboria.

By clicking on the maps shown above, blog readers can see enlarged (and somewhat clearer) views of them.
