A belated ‘day in the sun’ for my Peter Laing figures.

Despite the fact that of late most of my time has been taken up working on the final draft of THE PORTABLE PIKE & SHOT WARGAME book, I have been thinking about setting up a small battle so that figures from my collection of World War One Peter Laing figures can finally have their belated ‘day in the sun’.

The figures were originally intended to represent the Bolivian and Paraguayan armies of the Chaco War, and it is to that war that I looked for inspiration. In the end, I chose to base the scenario on the Battle of Nanawa, and I have just set up the terrain for the battle using my Hexon II hex terrain.

I hope to fight this battle over the next couple of days, and when I do, I’ll certainly write a battle report for this blog.

    1. Steve J.,

I’ve set it up on my small 6 x 8 hex grid board, so the battlefield looks quite crowded with trenches and barbed wire.

      All the best,

      Bob

  2. I look forward to your battle report and seeing Peter Laing back in action. Hopefully it will inspire me to get my own Peter Laing out for a game.

It will be great to use some of the collection for the first time in years ... and I look forward to seeing your figures in action again soon.

    1. Tradgardmastare,

I’ve just played through the first few moves, which were confined to an opening artillery barrage.

I hope that a battle report will be published by the weekend.

      All the best,

      Bob

  5. Hi Bob,
I like the Peter Laing 15mm Figures - a chap I knew some thirty odd years ago had Marlburians by Peter- excellent figures and delightful on the Table Top. Have fun there. Regards. KEV.

    1. Kev Robertson (Kev),

Peter Laing’s figures were great. Easy to paint, cheap to buy, and anatomically well proportioned. I just wish that they were still available.

      All the best,

      Bob

  6. Here's to seeing some Peter Laings on the table. I note that there are some enthusiastic collectors who love them, and I guess they gave a lot of folk a start in the hobby. So, why not celebrate them!

    1. David in Suffolk,

You won’t have too long to wait, as the battle report will be published tomorrow.

Peter Laing figures are a bit like Marmite. You either love them or hate them ... and I love them ... and I’m pleased that part of my collection has once again seen the light of day after so many years in storage.

      All the best,

      Bob
