Late last year, a trip to our storage unit yielded some interesting finds, including some figures that would be suitable for inclusion in my Belle Époque project. Whilst waiting for my recent eBay purchases to be delivered, I dipped into these figures and renovated, varnished, and based the following figures:
Burgundian Republican Guard Cavalry squadron ...
... and Republican Guard supply column.
The pre-painted cavalry figures were given away by a Spanish wargame magazine some years ago, and after a simple repaint of their jackets from green to blue, they made ideal figures for a Burgundian Guard cavalry unit. The vivandière figure came from the same source, and with the addition of an Essex Miniatures pack mule, made an ideal supply column for the Burgundian Guard.
Two mounted generals for the army of the Khedivate of Zubia, ...
... three generals for the army of the Sultanate of Sahel, ...
... and a general for the army of the Sultanate of Harabia.
The two Khedival generals are old Peter Laing figures whereas the other generals were all made by Essex Miniatures.

Its often good to have reserves to bring out and commit when the time is right.
ReplyDeleteRoss Mac,
DeleteThere’s more to come over the next few weeks.
All the best,
Bob
Your trips to the storage locker seem as much like an archaeology dig as they are trips to get some stuff.
ReplyDeleteIt's like some kind of meta-historical research.
Mr. Pavone,
DeleteI'd not thought of it in that way ... but there's more that an element of truth in your comment!
All the best,
Bob
Some classic shinyness there
ReplyDeleteThe Good Soldier Svjek,
DeleteI love my shiny soldiers!
All the best,

Bob -
ReplyDeleteAlways worth digging through semi-discarded stuff for extra command or logistics bits and pieces. That vivandiere stand is just tops. I have plenty of packhorse stands, but, sadly, no vivandiere to vivify the column...
Incidentally, a battle has been fought on the Kavkaz front, Tekhuri River - a kind of epilogue to the Kavkaz campaign narrative, and prologue to the Little Great War.
Cheers,
Ion
Archduke Piccolo (Ion),
DeleteI am sure that there’s a box of assorted painted 15mm figures somewhere in our storage unit that will probably yield some more odds and ends I can use.
When I saw the Vivandiere, I just HAD to find a use for her … and making her part of the Burgundian Presidential Guard Supply Company made lots of sense.
I look forward to reading you next battle report. It will spur me on to get more work done on my Belle Époque project.
All the best,
Bob
They look marvellous Bob. Your touch-ups, alterations and additions set them off perfectly—and beautifully shiny, as Tony notes!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes, James
This project really is flourishing, Bob. It’ll give you plenty of options for types of encounter and different theatres to fight in.
ReplyDelete(+ I really like renovating figures, and giving them new life…good to see you reviving these guys 👍🏼).
