Some more painted model buildings

Last month I built a number of model buildings (see here and here) and I have just finished painting them.

I used the same method as before (an overall coat of Tank Grey (Humbrol No.67) paint that is dry-brushed with a lighter colour before the detail is picked out in a variety of colours) but with a slightly different colour palette. The results are shown below:

Perfect- these buildings look great- well done on the painting- they turned out terrific and should do well for your 15mm gaming. Cheers. KEV.

    1. Mike Lewis,

Cheers! The technique is quick and easy ... and much more effective that I thought it would be.

      All the best,

And my city will be even bigger soon as I've just been given some more buildings to add to it!

    1. Roger,

Cheers! They may not be the best-painted model buildings in the world but they do have a consistent look ... which is what I hoped to achieve.

      All the best,

  6. Hi Bob

    Are these Faller buildings?

When I was in Germany back in 1970s Faller was very expensive. But you could get sheets of paper buildings for a few pence. They were printed on thick paper and you cut them out and glued together. I bought about 10 sheets and made about 50 buildings. I used balsa wood to make them stronger and then mounted them on thin wood bases and added a texture to the base. They saw a lot of table top action and travelled around a lot with me over the next 50 years, including our move to Spain.

You would imagine that such flimsy buildings would not last very long, but they are still on my scenery shevles. I usually use Holts commercial buildings now, or more often scratch built buildings. The last time I used the paper buildings was about 10 years ago for a game based on Sarragossa when I needed enough buildings to cover my 6x6 foot table.

    1. Thistlebarrow,

You are quite right, they are Faller kits that I have modified. Whilst I was confined to bed after breaking my leg, I bought one of their 'Old Town' kits, which is actually several kits that go together to form a section of a town. I built each building separately and then used the 'spare' pieces to make other buildings etc.

After I painted them last year, I realised that this kit produced some very interesting buildings ... so I bought a second one and assembled the buildings in slightly different arrangements. This was great fun ... and this is the latest batch of buildings I have added to my collection.

I did have some card building about thirty years ago, but I didn't reinforce them with balsa wood ... which was a big mistake. I then stored them in a shed (next big mistake) and when I went to use them they had mildew all over them and they were only fit for the bin.

I do have a large crate full of buildings in storage but my present mobility problems have prevented me from accessing them easily. There are a number of scratch-built plywood and basswood buildings in there as well as European plastic kit buildings.

      All the best,

      Bob
