The Chaco War ... again!

I have had quite a lot on interest in this topic, so much so that I have created a separate 'label' for the Chaco War so that blog readers can follow that particular topic should they wish to.

Some years ago I actually wrote some ORBATs for both sides for Megablitz. They can be found on the Megablitz website here.

The ORBATs are for the Bolivian Army in 1932 and 1935 and for the Paraguayan Army in 1932 and 1935.

  1. I ran a Call of Cthulhu game many moons ago where the players had discovered a nasty cult in French Guyana and then ran guns and mercenaries into the place to wipe them out. Their cover story was that the guns, etc were for use in the Chaco War.

  2. Conrad Kinch,

An interesting concept. Was the scenario one you made up yourself or was it one that was supplied with the game?

    All the best,

  3. The scenario was an out of the box one and sort of anticipated that the players would try some sort of commando style raid.

What I didn't anticipate was my players researching the period and approaching the extremely rich father of one of the cults victims with a plan of campaign involving a full on assault with mortar and air support, two companies of mercenaries and ex-Great War era flame throwers. In the words of one of the players, "Sir, we can't bring your daughter back, but we can make a fearful mess of the men that killed her."

It was an approach that wasn't really in the spirit of the game, but it was so well planned and executed that I felt it wouldn't be right to "punish" the players for an approach I (or the scenario writers) hadn't thought of.

  4. Conrad Kinch,

It sounds like they came up with a more than workable plan!

Nice to see that sometimes players do take the time and effort to 'immerse' themselves in the period.

    All the best,

    Bob
