During a recent visit to my local military bookshop (Falconwood Transport & Military Bookshop, 5 Falconwood Parade, The Green, Welling, Bexley, Kent, DA16 2PL) I bought a copy of FROM RETREAT TO DEFEAT: THE LAST YEARS OF THE GERMAN ARMY ON THE EASTERN FRONT 1943-45: A PHOTOGRAPHIC HISTORY by Ian Baxter.
This book was published in 2007 by Helion & Company (ISBN 978 1 906033 01 9) and the author claims that it contains approximately 190 previously unpublished photographs of troops and units of the German Army taken during the last year and a half of the war.
As I have had a long-term interest in the War on the Eastern Front/Great Patriotic War, this book was a ‘must’ … and it was actually not as expensive as I would have expected and well worth reading, although some of the appendices are a little simplistic (and full of errors and inaccuracies) for the hardened military enthusiast.
