ReplyDeleteYou are starting to remind me of Robert the Bruce and the spider!
Jim
Robert the Bruce sat on a tuffet?
ReplyDeleteEating his curds and whey?
Jim Duncan,
ReplyDeleteI understand that Robert the Bruce had a saying that 'If at first you don't succeed, try, try again!'. It put me in mind of the time that I heard Michael Grade say that his uncle Lew Grade's version of the saying was 'If at first you don't succeed ... you're fired!'.
All the best,
Bob
SAROE,
ReplyDeleteAre you mixing up your Bruces and your Muffets?
If you are, it sounds like a recipe for a disaster!
All the best,
Bob
In our part of the world Robert the Bruce is more famous for saying:
ReplyDelete"For as long as one hundred of us shall remain alive,
we shall never in any wise consent submit to the rule of the English,
for it is not for glory we fight, nor riches, or for honour,
but for freedom alone, which no good man loses but with his life."
Jim Duncan,
ReplyDeleteSounds like a slogan that the Scots Nats could use in the run-up to the forthcoming referendum.
All the best,
Bob
Words such as those above have often been quoted in the last 80 years or so in my country and will be quoted again no doubt in the near future.
ReplyDeleteJim Duncan,
ReplyDeleteI suspect that were the whole of the UK population allowed to vote in the referendum, Scotland would be granted her independence.
All the best,
Bob
Then the Geordies and the Macams will want a bit and then the West Country folk and maybe Pimlico too!
ReplyDeleteJim Duncan,
ReplyDeleteThis is beginning to sound like the scenario for a VBCW set in the present day!
All the best,
Bob
It's always hard to tell fantasy from reality!
ReplyDeleteJim Duncan,
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to politics, is there a difference?
All the best,
Bob
One would hope that next years referendum will turn one into the other!
ReplyDeleteJim Duncan,
ReplyDeleteJust as long as it does not turn into a nightmare!
All the best,
Bob
