The Wargamer's Notes Quarterly No.2

The second issue of THE WARGAMER'S NOTES QUARTERLY has been published ... and it is every bit as good as the first!

This is the second edition of the no-cost online magazine that is being produced by Greg Horne (of Australia) and Stokes Schwatz (of the USA).

This issue contains the following:
  • My Charge Mk 2 Project by Stuart Asquith (UK)
  • Setting the Scene for Russo-Japanese Naval Armageddon – part 2 by Rob Grace (UK)
  • Building Walmington-on-Sea by Noel Williams (UK)
  • Antares 2401: A Narrative Science Fiction Campaign by Phil Dutré
  • Quick Tips: Black outlining the easy way by Rob Grace (UK)
  • Converting Plastic 20mm WW2 German Paratroopers – Part 2 by Will Harley (UK)
  • Little Lead Men by Chris Gregg
  • Slightly Irregular by Otto Schmidt (USA)
  • Wargaming the Ninth Cape Frontier War – Part 2 by Noel Williams (UK)
  • Call It Macaroni: The Test game: A Quick and Dirty Approach to Horse and Musket Warfare by Stokes Schwatrz (USA)
Unfortunately the Kursk Campaign article which is mentioned on the cover had to be held over to the next issue, but the rest of the content more than made up for my momentary disappointment. In particular Stuart Asquith's My Charge Mk 2 Project article was the one that stood out for me, mainly because it reflected so many of my own thoughts about my future wargames. Who could not resist fighting battles with lovely 30mm gloss finished Toy Soldiers that are so redolent of the original Britains figures used by H G Wells et al?

Stuart Asquith's 1st Ulhans. The figures are from the Classic 30mm range of figures produced by Spencer Smith Minatures.
If you are interested in getting hold of a copy of THE WARGAMER'S NOTES QUARTERLY, contact them at wargamersnotebook@gmail.com.

I am not sure who owns the copyright of the photo of Stuart Asquith's figures, but the image has been reproduced for review purposes only and copyright does not lie with me.

  1. Bob,
I must say the Cover got my attention with 40K Terminator Space Marines making a landing from what could be a WW2 American styled landing craft...Interesting. However-I must resist - as I'm easily attracted to anything that is Naval in orientation. Cheers. KEV.

    1. Kev Robertson,

The article that the front cover relates to is Phil Dutre's one about narrative wargame campaigns, and is well worth reading. The magazine is also FREE(!) so I'd recommend that you indulge yourself and get a copy sent to you.

      All the best,

      Bob

    2. Phil Dutré,

Credit where it is due; it was a very good article ... and that comes from someone who has no great love of Sci-Fi wargaming.

      All the best,

      Bob

  2. I agree with you, Bob. WNQ and Lone Warrior are my favourite wargame magazines these days.
Perhaps you might submit one of your PW pieces to it?
    Regards,
    Arthur

    1. Arthur Harman,

WNQ is excellent ... and I am giving serious thought to writing a PW-related article for it.

      All the best,

      Bob

  3. I've just got my copies of 1 + 2 - very impressed with both. The quality of writing is as good as the glossies in WH Smiths.

    Cheers,

    1. Pete,

I'm glad that you like WNQ. The quality is excellent, mainly because its contributors are wargamers who write about what they love.

      All the best,

      Bob

  4. Thanks for the great review Bob! I'll have to start paying you advertising rates...

And anytime you want to write a PW article, I'll be there ready to publish it!

    1. Wargamer's Notes (Greg),

I give credit where it is due ... and I would actually pay to read this magazine because I think that everything in it is top quality stuff.

Arthur Harman has also suggested that I write something for you about THE PORTABLE WARGAME ... and once my latest (non-wargaming) research project is complete I may well do so!

      All the best,

      Bob
