I've been reviewing the situation ...

Over the past week I've been spending a lot of time reading my 2008 to 2015 blog entries. I did this in the hope that it would help me to formulate my future plans ... and it has given my a lot to think about. One thing that stood out was the way in which the rules I currently use have evolved through a number of iterations. Another is the amount of fun I seem to have had fighting mini-campaigns.

I still have a few more blog entries to read through, but plans are already beginning to form in my mind. Whether they will ever come to fruition, I don't know ... but whatever happens, I intend to have as much fun as I can!

  1. Hi Bob, Have you ever considered compiling your blog posts into a book? I may be easier than you think... http://www.blurb.com/blog/five-reasons-go-blog-book/

    1. Phf,

Funnily enough, as I've been reading them, I've been preparing my blog entries with exactly that idea in mind. The only problem is that some of the resultant books are going to be massive!

      All the best,

      Bob

I have had the pleasure over the last year of working through the Bob Cordery blog back numbers and it is a very rich resource indeed. There are lots of possible resources to polish and pull together in print such as scenarios and mini campaigns such as Bob has already begun to explore in the Portable Wargame etc. The pick up and use popularity of Books such as Neil Thomas' One Hour Wargames (short scenarios and simple rules) and Bob's Portable Wargame prove this. Henry Hyde is working on a Campaigns book which will no doubt have the same 'how to' ideas appeal.
This is one of the joys of blogging over time as an open online diary and project write up with the rich addition of people's comments.
Others would argue that the content is already available free as a blog so why buy the book ...

    1. MIN ManofTin (Mark),

Thanks for the very complimentary remarks. I am very pleased to read that you have found my older blog entries to be of interest.

I am thinking about turning what I have written into printed form purely for my own benefit, and not for general publication. I suppose that it is a form of insurance so that I will always have what I have written as a reference should anything ever happen to my blog. Even if I don't do this, the process has made me realise just how many ideas and projects I have worked on ... and might still get around to completing and/or using.

      All the best,

      Bob

Ah, now I understand. I wasn't wishing to load you with more pressure to commit to new writing projects as it sounds like you have quite enough in the pipeline already!
An interesting point, what if we somehow lose access to our blogs, things change or they crash? Printing out the content of rules and people's useful comments etc seems very sensible.

    3. MIN ManofTin,

I quite understood your excellent suggestion, and if I hadn't already started work on doing just that, it would have made me realise that it was something that I ought to do.

Storing something electronically is not as permanent as some people like to believe. I can go to the National Archives and read written or printed documents that are hundreds of years old ... but cannot read computer files that were produced twenty years ago because their format is no longer compatible with modern computers.

      Makes you think, doesn't it?

      All the best,

      Bob
