Nugget 314

I collected the latest issue of THE NUGGET (N314) from the printer yesterday and posted it out to members this morning. It has also been uploaded to the website so that it can be read online.

IMPORTANT: Please note that this is the fifth issue of THE NUGGET to be published for the 2018-2019 subscription year. If you have not yet re-subscribed, a reminder was sent to you when the last issue of THE NUGGET for 2017-2018 was posted out. If you wish to re-subscribe using the PayPal option on the relevant page of the website, you can use the existing buttons as the subscription cost has not changed.

  1. Good stuff, I could not resist taking a look online
Some very interesting stuff alongside the CoW 2018 game reports
Liked the backstory to "The Friends of the Hittite Chariot" story! (A younger Bob was seen in the photo)

I was thinking of putting forward a small game for 2019 .. Canvas Eagles jumped to mind, would appreciate your thoughts on what makes a good CoW game. I will probably email yourself and Tim Gow with my ideas for feedback and sage advice if that's OK

    Best Wishes
    Mark

    1. Geordie an Exiled FoG (Mark),

I am very glad that you liked this issue of THE NUGGET, but I'll make no comment about the 'Friends of the Hittite Chariot' for obvious reasons.

What makes for a good COW game? Some of the things I would included in my list are:
      * Fun to take part in
      * Quick and easy to learn the basic rules
      * Easy-ish to set up and take down afterwards
      * Suitable for six to eight participants ... and more if possible
      * Includes something novel or innovative (e.g. it covers a historical period or event not usually gamed, it includes a new game mechanism, or it uses an old game mechanism in a new way etc.)
      * It takes about two hours to play (but can be longer if it is a double-session game)

A good COW game does not have to include all of the above, but should include at least one of them.

      All the best,

      Bob

    1. Tim Gow,

It's good to hear that the latest copy of THE NUGGET has arrived safe and sound.

I don't think that we've ever published a set of session guidelines. My list of criteria is based on what I look for in a COW session. I wonder what other attendees look for?

      All the best,

      Bob

    1. Geordie an Exile FoG,

It's five months (plus a little bit) to go ... and the time will zip past!

      All the best,

      Bob
